Don Black, of Groton’s Old Burying Ground Commission, will talk about the graves in the Old Burying Ground related to the Revolutionary War. Accompanying the walk and talk will be a display of the Revolutionary War cannon that militia, including members from Groton, looted off of a British ship and used at the Battle of Bunker Hill. The cannon was restored by Earl Carter and sits atop a replica carriage Carter constructed with two-century-old wood left over from the construction of the USS Constitution.
This program is offered by the Groton History Center as part of the Hidden Treasures Festival of Nature, Culture & History, an annual month-long celebration showcasing events and activities hosted by local partners celebrating the unique places, objects, and stories of the Freedom’s Way National Heritage Area. Hidden Treasures programs are free and open to the public. Learn more at freedomsway.org/hidden-treasures.
