You’ve grabbed lunch at Faneuil Hall Marketplace, cheered on the home team at Fenway Park, and watched the penguins frolic at the New England Aquarium.
But have you checked out the locations of the Alma Wright Zen Garden, Buggs Village, or Storyville?
Maybe now you should. Mayor Michelle Wu’s administration and several major corporate partners want to get people off the beaten path, to check out corners of the city that might be unfamiliar to them. On Tuesday, Wu unveiled what city officials are calling “Tour 250,” an interactive map featuring dozens of historic sites — some obvious, and some decidedly less so. Twenty-five of these spots, spread across different neighborhoods, will be demarcated with physical markers that city officials are installing in the days leading up to July 4.
City officials created this tour to coincide with the country’s 250th anniversary celebrations, many of them happening this summer, and in preparation for the city’s 400th anniversary in 2030. So far, more than 100 sites have been included in the virtual tour through an app created by Bloomberg Connects — many of them featuring audio narration — with more on the way.
