Quincy’s proud shipbuilding history comes to life at the United States Naval Shipbuilding Museum. Explore the USS Salem, worlds only preserved heavy cruiser, which was built at Quincy's famed Fore River Shipyard. Go above and below decks of this 717-ft Cold War-era vessel where over 1,600 officers and sailors lived and worked. Envision yourself part of the ship’s company as you sit in the captain’s chair on the ship’s bridge, view the barber shop, engine room, galley, medical spaces, mess decks, post office, print shop and more. Salem is privileged to be the home of several exhibits including the US Navy Cruiser Sailors, USS Newport News, USS Quincy, the Model Ship Collection and the Military History Research Center and Weapons Collection.
Open seasonal weekends mid-April to mid-November.
