The Road Where It Happened: Revolution Comes to Menotomy

Known today as Massachusetts Avenue, Battle Road was the route traversed by some 2,000 British regulars marching to Concord and back again on April 19, 1775, sparking the start of the American Revolution. This exhibit sheds welcome light on the diverse people who fought and lived through that historic battle that took place amidst their farms, stores, and homes. More than 3,000 colonists from Menotomy (now Arlington) and nearby towns also gathered along the road to fight for independence from British attempts to impose greater control over the colonies.
