The house’s original occupants were involved as accusers in the Salem Witch Trials, and their descendent Judge Samuel Holten was the President of the Continental Congress. Samuel Holten was active in the provincial Massachusetts congress in the lead-up to the Revolution, was a member of the Continental Congress, signed the Articles of Confederation, and then served in the Massachusetts Senate, on the Governor’s Council, and as a US Representative.
The house has been owned by the Daughters of the American Revolution since the 1920s. It has been restored and DAR offers tours by appointment in-season.
