This country estate was home to Josiah Quincy II, a relative of John Adams through Abigail Adams, and a patriot in his own right who was the spokesperson for the Sons of Liberty in Boston. He was co-counsel with John Adams in defending the British soldiers who fired on the crowd at the Boston Massacre. Josiah’s son, Josiah Quincy III, was a US Representative, Mayor of Boston, and President of Harvard. Quincy Market in Boston is named after John Quincy III. The City of Quincy itself was named after a distant of Josiah Quincy, John Quincy.
The home is owned by Historic New England, who offer tours to the public on Saturdays between June and October.
