The John Cabot House

The oldest brick building in Beverly, this mansion was built by a privateer captain, John Cabot. Cabot and his family owned 40 privateer vessels that served in the Revolution by transporting supplies and disrupting the British navy. The Cabot family descendants (notably those named Henry Cabot Lodge) served as US Senators for Massachusetts for much of the state’s history from the 1790s until the 1950s.

The house is owned and operated by Historic Beverly and is a museum, visitor center, and shop that allows self-guided and guided tours. It has child-friendly activities and exhibits.
