This mansion was owned by Colonel Jeremiah Lee, the wealthiest man in Massachusetts at the time of the Revolution. He made his money from shipping (and, worth noting, the slave trade) and became head of the Marblehead militia. He was a key importer of munitions for Massachusetts rebels to use against the British in Lexington and Concord and then the siege of Boston.
The mansion is owned by the Marblehead Museum, which offers tours between June and October.
