The Bidwell House Museum

The Bidwell House Museum was built c.1760 by a man named Adonijah Bidwell, the first Minister of what was then Township #1, today the towns of Monterey and Tyringham, Massachusetts. The home remained in the Bidwell family for three generations until it was sold in the mid-18th century. Eventually, in 1960, it was purchased by Jack Hargis and David brush, who spent the next 25 years restoring the house to an authentic 1760s style using the probate inventory of Reverend Bidwell. The Museum was left to a non-profit in the 1980s and opened as an Historic House Museum in 1990. Today, visitors can take guided tours of the house from Memorial Day to October, attend educational programs both in person and online, and hike on the 194 acre property 365 days a year. The Museum mission is to provide a personal encounter with history, early American home life and the Berkshire landscape through its land, house and collection.
