Storrs House Museum and Archive

The Storrs House was built in 1786 for the Reverend Richard Salter Storrs, the second pastor of the First Church of Christ in Longmeadow, Massachusetts. His home was built on ministerial property and stood on the land in front of our present town library. Three generations of the Storrs family lived in the house.

Rev. Richard Salter Storrs’ second wife was the granddaughter of Rev. Stephen Williams, the "Boy Captive of Deerfield" and Longmeadow's first minister. Most of the contents of the Storrs House belonged to the Williams and Storrs pastors and their descendants including hundreds of artifacts used during the late 18th century. Reverend Williams also kept a diary throughout his 66 year tenure as minister from 1716-1782.  As part of a WPA project in the 1930's the diary was transcribed, offering greater accessibility to those interested in 18th century life in a New England town, including first person reports of  Revolutionary War activities and events. Today, all ten volumes of Williams' diary are available online at the Longmeadow Storrs Library website: https://longmeadowlibrary.org/
