Located in Taunton, Massachusetts, the Old Colony History Museum is home to an extensive collection of regional objects and archives and a research library specializing in local history and genealogy.
Experience the newly renovated Military Room which features an outstanding 240 objects, of which over 140 have never been permanently displayed. It includes seven veteran recordings, an electronic interactive map of Camp Myles Standish with 70 historic images, an exciting 37-piece “hatalog”, six stories of women in the military, and so much more spanning 250 years. From “In Their Own Words” to a wall of swords and guns, this complete renovation has something for everyone and proudly honors Old Colony’s contribution in every major conflict since the founding of the nation.
Each fall, Liberty and Union Day commemorates the events of October 1774, when our community became one of the first in the American colonies to raise a flag in opposition to British rule. That flag - the "Liberty and Union" flag - flies proudly over our city to this day.
