Believed to be the oldest remaining brick “saltbox” colonial style house in the country, this house was home to Josiah Day. Day was a local leader who advocated for West Springfield to become its own municipality separate of Springfield. Josiah’s cousin Luke Day was a Revolutionary War officer who became a leader of Shay’s Rebellion in 1786. The house was used as a headquarters for the rebel leaders before President Washington put down the revolt.
It is currently a museum operated by the Ramapogue Historical Society. The house is open seasonally to the public starting in April, and they offer tours to the public that are scheduled in advance.
