Charles River Museum of Industry and Innovation

The Charles River Museum of Industry and Innovation is located on the National Historic Landmark of the Boston Manufacturing Company's first cotton textile mill, where Francis Cabot Lowell launched the Industrial Revolution in America. Born in 1775, Lowell was a transformative figure in American history, and helped the new United States fulfill Alexander Hamilton's desire to be commercially and economically independent, not just politically so. Born into the Revolution, Francis Cabot Lowell's innovations in integrated manufacturing, technology, workforce development of the 'Mill Girls,' and business capitalization all together developed the Waltham-Lowell System, which was replicated all over New England and throughout the world. The Charles River Museum carries that revolutionary innovative spirit through 250 years of industrial history, educational programming, and commemoration of #MA250.
