From professionally assembled books, to bound collections of personal papers, the art of bookbinding has helped preserve documents for centuries. Relying on 18th-century methods of folding, sewing and sealing, bookbinding expert Jennifer Pellecchia will demonstrate binding styles commonly used in colonial America, with participants taking home their completed examples.
This special evening celebrates our exhibit, Declaring the Revolution: America’s Printed Path to Independence, showcasing rare items from the David M. Rubenstein Americana Collection, and the exhibit itself will be open free of charge from 5:30–7:00 p.m., so come early to take a look at examples of the bindings on display! The Museum Store and Cafe will be open until 7:00 p.m.
All guests under the age of 18 are required to have an adult chaperone.
