Connect with Massachusetts 250 This April Vacation Week

In the spring of 2025, Massachusetts is commemorating several important events that led to the American Revolution. From Boston to the Berkshires, there are many unique ways for families to participate. Here is a short list of things to see and do during April Vacation week in Massachusetts:

Note: There will large events such as the 250th commemoration of Lexington and Concord and the Boston Marathon happening in Massachusetts on the weekend of April 18-21. Be sure to plan your activities and travel time accordingly.

Lexington and Concord: April 19, 1775

At the start of April Vacation Week Lexington, Concord, and other communities will be hosting commemorative events related to Paul Revere’s Ride and the ‘shot heard round the world.’ For detailed information about these locales, things, to do, the Concord 250 Parade, and trip logistics we recommend visiting the following sites:

Metro West: Paul Revere and Friends

Musical Ventriloquist Kevin Driscoll will be portraying the famed patriot in The Paul Revere & Friends™ an interactive performance that includes learning about beginning of the American Revolution at Lexington and Concord in April 1775. This event is free and appropriate for all ages.

  • Immersive Gamebox: Ready to game as a family? This unique venue offers a variety of interactive, group-based games designed to engage players in unique and immersive experiences.
  • Family Meal Stop: Since 2006, the Station 5 Grille has been serving up some of the tastiest breakfast and lunch dishes in Natick. Don’t miss out on your chance to try the Sweet Potato Pancake platter.

North of Boston: Tricorn Hat Workshop

The Lynnfield Historical Society is hosting a number of Revolutionary events on April 18-19 including the Shadows of 1775 play and a Children’s Workshop at the Meeting House that will include reenactor demonstrations and a make-your-own tricorn hat craft.

  • Walk the Q: Take a springtime walk or family bike ride around Wakefield’s Lake Quannapowitt. The paved route around the lake is 3.5 miles. Don’t miss the playground near Church Street!

South of Boston: Revolutionary Ideas Started Here

Many people think of Plimoth Patuxet Museums and the connections to colonial America in the 1600’s. Plan a trip to this historic campus and see how “revolutionary ideas started here” with experiences and enhancements that connect conversations and ideas that took root in 1620 but had an impact in 1776 and beyond.

  • Pilgrim Memorial State Park: Take a stroll along this waterfront gem and enjoy scenic views, jetty hikes, and the famed Plymouth Rock.

Greater Boston: The Freedom Trail

Huzzah! It’s time to throw the tea overboard at the Boston Tea Party Ships & Museum. Step aboard a full-scale replica of the ships where the Boston Tea Party began, interact with revolutionary reenactors, and learn about Boston’s many connections to the American Revolution.

Follow Boston’s iconic Freedom Trail for a walk through decades of events that had an impact on the American Revolution. This 2.5-mile path features 16 historic sites, including Revolutionary Spaces and the Paul Revere House. Guided tours from accredited tour companies are available for families who want to dive deeper into the city’s pivotal role in the Revolution.
