Founded in 1900 the Falmouth Historical Society is oldest historical society on Cape Cod and deeply embedded in the community. Our campus is highly visible on Falmouth’s historic village green. From small beginnings, one hundred twenty-three years later we offer many programs and exhibits, while adhering to our mission to preserve and share the history of Falmouth. We have a two-acre campus located in the heart of historic Falmouth facing the Village Green with three main buildings. They consist of the handsome 1790 Wicks House, home of Dr. Francis Wicks, an early American pioneer in the prevention of smallpox and the 1730 Conant House, which houses our offices, exhibit space, library and archives. In 2000 we rebuilt a barn as a three-season Visitor Center and added to it in 2011 a year-around Cultural Center with a multi-purpose room for lectures, meetings and social events, public bathrooms, kitchen and in the basement, collections storage. We have extensive collections. Through our members and supporters, we have preserved more than 15,000 artifacts, 60 works of art, 134,000 documents from Falmouth’s past. In additional, our research and genealogical library contains over 700 volumes.
