The Innovation Trail

The Innovation Trail is a self-guided and guided walking tour through four centuries of world-changing breakthroughs born in Boston and Cambridge. Spanning 21 stops across both cities, the trail covers landmark moments in science, medicine, entrepreneurship, and technology — from the invention of the telephone and the first use of surgical anesthesia, to the development of the COVID-19 mRNA vaccine and the origins of the Internet. Visitors can join scheduled public walking tours or explore at their own pace using the free audio guide available on Spotify and iTunes. Named Boston Magazine's Best Walking Tour (2023) and featured in Yankee Magazine's Best of Massachusetts, the trail is rated 5 stars on both Google and TripAdvisor.
