SUMMARY:Brewing Massachusetts: How Beer Shaped the Bay State
DESCRIPTION:We are proud to introduce our most ambitious exhibit ever\, titled “Brewing Massachusetts: How Beer Shaped the Bay State\,” made possible by a grant from Massachusetts 250 and the Massachusetts Office of Travel & Tourism (MOTT). Through rare artifacts\, photographs\, and documents\, this exhibit will tell the story of Massachusetts brewers from the Pilgrims to the present. This exhibit will be held in a rebuilt Revolutionary era tavern and tickets will be $5. Come see it starting May 30th at 107 Old Main Street in Deerfield at the Indian House Memorial.\nNo state has been more impacted by brewing than Massachusetts. But this story hasn’t been told in one place\, until now. “Brewing Massachusetts” will be open during the 250th anniversary of 1776\, a landmark nationwide event that will shine a spotlight on American history. We want to incorporate the entire state in our celebration of the History of Brewing\, and what better way than to include all of Massachusetts.

DESCRIPTION:To mark the 250th Anniversary of the American Revolution\, the Captain Bangs Hallet House Museum will present a special exhibition during the summer of 2026.  “Yarmouth In Revolution” will look at what life was like for the townspeople living through the pivotal years of the American Revolution.  We will focus attention on their daily lives: how did political and military events effect them and how did they manage to live ‘normal’ lives during this tumultuous time?  What was life like in this village in the 1760s-1780s?  \nDrawn from the collections of the Historical Society of Old Yarmouth as well as private lenders\, the exhibit will showcase a select number of artifacts associated with Yarmouth’s experiences during the Revolutionary War period.  \nGuided tours are offered Thursday – Saturday at 11:00\, 12:00\, 1:00 and 2:00.

DESCRIPTION:Celebrate the 250th anniversary of American independence in Sturbridge with a full day of community spirit\, history\, and fun! \nThe Sturbridge America250 Parade steps off at 10:30 AM from the Old Sturbridge Village Museum Education parking lot. The route will start at the corner of Stallion Hill Road and Route 20\, continue east Route 20\, up to Route 131\, and conclude at the Town Common. \nEnjoy a lively lineup featuring marching bands\, entertainers\, antique cars\, and creative floats from local businesses and community groups. The parade will be emceed by Bill Emrich\, with Grand Marshal Bob Briere\, the town’s beloved historian\, and Guest of Honor Virginia Jalbert\, Sturbridge’s oldest resident at 101. \nCommunity members are encouraged to join in! Businesses\, organizations\, and individuals can participate with floats\, vintage vehicles\, or as marchers. DESCRIPTION:A silver bowl. 17-foot-wide painted room divider. A charismatic silversmith considering his craft. A towering mahogany desk and bookcase. Certain paintings\, sculptures\, decorative arts\, and works on paper from the MFA’s Art of the Americas art collection\, along with the artists who created them\, played a pivotal role in shaping the early history of the United States. Today\, as we approach 250 years since the country’s founding\, they likewise have a unique ability to recount and reflect that history while also inviting us to reconsider it. \nCoinciding with the 250th anniversary of American Independence\, the MFA is reimagining its 18th-century galleries on level one of the Art of the Americas Wing for the first time since they opened in 2010. The new display\, which opens in June 2026\, brings together works from across the Americas—integrating Native and non-native\, North\, South\, and Central American\, and Caribbean art—and explores how artists have contributed to\, or in some cases resisted\, ideas of nationhood and identity. Visitors can immerse themselves in a range of stories and experiences\, discovering the interconnectedness of the Americas and its history\, institutions\, and people. \nGilbert Stuart’s unfinished portrait of George Washington (1796)—the foundational image of the nation’s first president in the public imagination—offers viewers a prescient reminder that democracy is constant work in progress. An early piece of American protest art\, Paul Revere’s Sons of Liberty Bowl (1768) honors a group of Massachusetts rebels who paved the way for the Revolution. A ceramic jar (1857) by the enslaved potter and poet David Drake exemplifies literacy as an act of resistance in the decades before the Civil War. Thomas Sully drew on artistic traditions of heroism for The Passage of the Delaware (1819)\, which portrays George Washington in a dramatic scene of bravery. Meanwhile\, a recently acquired work by Alan Michelson\, a Mohawk member of Six Nations of the Grand River\, offers a contemporary critique of Washington\, who was known to the Mohawk Nation as “Town Destroyer.” These and the many other works on view reveal a past in dialogue with the present and propose endless possibilities for assessing history as we look ahead to the future.

SUMMARY:Calling All Kids\, Patriots And Sailors: Revolutionary Summer Saturdays
DESCRIPTION:FREE outdoor and indoor activities for kids all summer long \nBuilding on the success of the Road to Revolution partnership programs\, each Saturday from now until the end of September\, the museum will host children’s outdoor and indoor programming. The hugely successful Discovery Center experience will extend out onto the lawn with 15 new activity stations. Rolling River Printmakers of New England will partner this week with an activity station to make prints. A rideable dolphin and elephant\, courtesy of local sculptor Jeff Briggs\, along with a bouncy castle\, pirate boat with water guns\, plus water\, sand and craft tables await. \nThis free program runs from 10 am to 1 pm thanks to generous sponsorship from the Institution for Savings and the Local Cultural Council. \nLooking ahead\, in September\, the museum is pleased to partner with Imagine Studios on a fascinating project to burn and carve out of a pine log and shape into a 20 foot long mishoon (dugout canoe) using traditional methods. Led by Imagine Studios\, Darius Coombs of the Mashpee Wampanoag and Jonathan Petty of the Aquinnah Wampanoag will carve over successive weekends. DESCRIPTION:Featuring manuscripts\, artifacts\, and rarely seen treasures\, this exhibition captures a monumental moment in American history.  \nIn 1776\, people grappled with ideas of liberty\, loyalty\, and the role of government in society. Private letters\, intimate diaries\, and newspaper accounts reveal how the Declaration of Independence grew from draft to founding document. 1776: Declaring Independence spotlights handwritten copies of the Declaration by John Adams and Thomas Jefferson as well as multiple early printings\, including a rare Dunlap broadside. On and off the page\, we explore how it echoed across the commonwealth and around the world\, reshaping the colonists’ chances of launching a new nation. How did the Declaration change Americans’ quest for liberty\, then and now? DESCRIPTION:We are proud to introduce our most ambitious exhibit ever\, titled “Brewing Massachusetts: How Beer Shaped the Bay State\,” made possible by a grant from Massachusetts 250 and the Massachusetts Office of Travel & Tourism (MOTT). Through rare artifacts\, photographs\, and documents\, this exhibit will tell the story of Massachusetts brewers from the Pilgrims to the present. This exhibit will be held in a rebuilt Revolutionary era tavern and tickets will be $5. Come see it starting May 30th at 107 Old Main Street in Deerfield at the Indian House Memorial.\nNo state has been more impacted by brewing than Massachusetts. But this story hasn’t been told in one place\, until now. “Brewing Massachusetts” will be open during the 250th anniversary of 1776\, a landmark nationwide event that will shine a spotlight on American history. We want to incorporate the entire state in our celebration of the History of Brewing\, and what better way than to include all of Massachusetts.

We will focus attention on their daily lives: how did political and military events effect them and how did they manage to live ‘normal’ lives during this tumultuous time?  What was life like in this village in the 1760s-1780s?  \nDrawn from the collections of the Historical Society of Old Yarmouth as well as private lenders\, the exhibit will showcase a select number of artifacts associated with Yarmouth’s experiences during the Revolutionary War period.  \nGuided tours are offered Thursday – Saturday at 11:00\, 12:00\, 1:00 and 2:00.

DESCRIPTION:A silver bowl. 17-foot-wide painted room divider. A charismatic silversmith considering his craft. A towering mahogany desk and bookcase. Certain paintings\, sculptures\, decorative arts\, and works on paper from the MFA’s Art of the Americas art collection\, along with the artists who created them\, played a pivotal role in shaping the early history of the United States. Today\, as we approach 250 years since the country’s founding\, they likewise have a unique ability to recount and reflect that history while also inviting us to reconsider it. \nCoinciding with the 250th anniversary of American Independence\, the MFA is reimagining its 18th-century galleries on level one of the Art of the Americas Wing for the first time since they opened in 2010. The new display\, which opens in June 2026\, brings together works from across the Americas—integrating Native and non-native\, North\, South\, and Central American\, and Caribbean art—and explores how artists have contributed to\, or in some cases resisted\, ideas of nationhood and identity. Visitors can immerse themselves in a range of stories and experiences\, discovering the interconnectedness of the Americas and its history\, institutions\, and people. \nGilbert Stuart’s unfinished portrait of George Washington (1796)—the foundational image of the nation’s first president in the public imagination—offers viewers a prescient reminder that democracy is constant work in progress. An early piece of American protest art\, Paul Revere’s Sons of Liberty Bowl (1768) honors a group of Massachusetts rebels who paved the way for the Revolution. A ceramic jar (1857) by the enslaved potter and poet David Drake exemplifies literacy as an act of resistance in the decades before the Civil War. Thomas Sully drew on artistic traditions of heroism for The Passage of the Delaware (1819)\, which portrays George Washington in a dramatic scene of bravery. Meanwhile\, a recently acquired work by Alan Michelson\, a Mohawk member of Six Nations of the Grand River\, offers a contemporary critique of Washington\, who was known to the Mohawk Nation as “Town Destroyer.” These and the many other works on view reveal a past in dialogue with the present and propose endless possibilities for assessing history as we look ahead to the future.

Private letters\, intimate diaries\, and newspaper accounts reveal how the Declaration of Independence grew from draft to founding document. 1776: Declaring Independence spotlights handwritten copies of the Declaration by John Adams and Thomas Jefferson as well as multiple early printings\, including a rare Dunlap broadside. On and off the page\, we explore how it echoed across the commonwealth and around the world\, reshaping the colonists’ chances of launching a new nation. How did the Declaration change Americans’ quest for liberty\, then and now?
