DESCRIPTION:Join us at the Sudbury History Center and Museum on September 17th for a lecture on the early history of the Parmenter Family of Sudbury by descendant Ralph Parmenter Bennett! \nIn 1639\, Deacon John Parmenter courageously voyaged across the Atlantic from England with his wife and two children and was one of the original proprietors of Sudbury\, Massachusetts. His descendants made important contributions to the town since its incorporation\, valiantly fought in the American Revolutionary War\, and the name is still proudly carried to this day. \nRalph Parmenter Bennett\, one of these descendants\, is an authority on the family genealogy and history and has published extensively researched articles on the Parmenters in the New England Historical and Genealogical Register. In this talk\, he will discuss highlights from their English origins\, their settling in Sudbury\, and their participation in the Revolution in this celebratory year of America250.

DESCRIPTION:In 1770 Colonel Josiah Quincy I built the current Quincy House. Colonel Quincy and his son Josiah strongly supported independence\, but his son Samuel was a Loyalist\, and the American Revolution divided the family forever. Learn about their lives and their relationship\, then re-enact the Boston Massacre trial\, where Josiah Jr. defended the British soldiers while Samuel prosecuted them. \nAges 8-14\nNo registrations will be accepted on the day of the program. One adult per family admitted free. \nIt is not a drop-off program – children must be accompanied by an adult. Strollers and backpack carriers are not permitted in the house museums.

SUMMARY:Trodding on the Knox Trail – in Celebration of MA250 Anniversary
DESCRIPTION:In Colonial times\, the Great Road connected Springfield and Albany. In the winter of 1776\, Henry Knox famously led his “Noble Train of Artillery” along this route on its way to Boston\, helping turn the tide of the American Revolutionary War. Remarkably\, portions of the original route still exist today\, hidden within Swann and Beartown State Forests! In celebration of MA250\, explore a preserved section of one of the Berkshires’ oldest roads and hear its stories as told by Rob Hoogs\, from the Bidwell House Museum and Monterey Historical Society.  The program is co-sponsored with MA Department of Conservation and Recreation\, and part of the 2026 Housatonic Heritage Walk series.  \nModerate difficulty hike\, recommended for teenagers and older; 2 hours–2.5 miles. Wear weather-appropriate clothing and sturdy footwear. Bring drink/snack\, sunscreen\, and bug spray. Hiking poles are recommended. Friendly dogs are permitted on leash. SUMMARY:Taste the Teas That Steeped a Revolution
DESCRIPTION:The ritual of tea was just as important in colonial American life as it was in Great Britain. In the late 1700s\, acts of rebellion were planned over pots of the drink\, which led to the dumping of tea into Boston Harbor in 1773 and eventually to a revolution. Join author and tea historian Bruce Richardson for an illustrated presentation about Boston’s historic tea culture and the East India Company leaves that sparked the War of Independence. \nFollowing the talk\, participants will be able to taste three colonial-era teas (and accompanying snacks)\, and Richardson will be available to sign copies of his book\, A Social History of Tea. Limited copies of the book will be available for purchase at the Gift Store. \nThis special evening celebrates our temporary exhibit\, Declaring the Revolution: America’s Printed Path to Independence\, showcasing rare items from the David M. Rubenstein Americana Collection. The exhibit will be open free of charge from 5:30–7:00 pm! The Museum Store and Cafe will be open until 7:00 pm. \nPlease note that this program is in-person only\, and will not be livestreamed.\nAll guests under the age of 18 are required to have an adult chaperone.

During the American Revolution\, Plymouth’s Patriots and Loyalists fought not only over politics\, but over the meaning of the town’s past.
