Ministers and laity alike believed that God favored them and that their cause was a morally justified\, sacred rebellion. DESCRIPTION:The Battles of Lexington and Concord erupted on April 19\, 1775\, pitting the brave Massachusetts militia against the formidable British forces. This confrontation followed the dramatic Midnight Rides and the urgent Lexington Alarm\, which mobilized the countryside in preparation for the impending advance of British troops toward Concord. Tensions reached a breaking point when British soldiers opened fire on the steadfast Lexington militia\, igniting the sparks of the American Revolutionary War and ushering in a new era of struggle for independence. \nJoin Tom Tringale as he recounts the events of April 18-19\, 1775—the start of a revolution. \nTringale is a graduate of Salem State College with a degree in History. He has been involved in living History since 1995. He has helped organize numerous events around New England\, including planning the 250th anniversary of the Boston Massacre\, Battle Road\, and the British raids in Bristol\, Rhode Island (2028). He is a member of Claus’ Rangers\, an American Loyalist living history group based in New York\, and the 3rd Massachusetts Regiment\, an American Continental Regiment living history group from Easthampton\, MA. During this open house program explore the interior of this 319 year old home\, talk with park staff about military preparations in 1775\, and learn the story of Rebeckah Barrett who went toe to toe with the British Soldiers searching her home. \nSchedule of Events: \n11:00 am- Military Supplies lecture (1 hour)\nFrom cannons to salted fish\, Concord became a major hub of military supply in 1775. Over the course of a few months the Barrett farm became a focal point of the logistics of war. Join Historian Joel Bohy for a special 250th anniversary lecture about the collection of Military supplies in Concord before\, during\, and after April 0f 1775. He strives to develop museum programs that connect local history to a variety of extra-disciplinary topics including linguistics\, literature\, pop culture\, and more. As a graduate of Bridgewater State University with a B.A. in English and a minor in History\, with a focus in English historical linguistics\, Antoine’s academic interests range from archaic language texts & translation\, and folk myth & culture\, to rhetorical & creative composition\, and music & poetry. DESCRIPTION:Chelsea artist Max Pro explores personal and cultural ties between Chelsea and the Caribbean in a compelling presentation on the history of Cuba. The Cary family\, whose historic home serves as the backdrop for this event\, lived in Chelsea while also overseeing plantations in Grenada and other Caribbean islands. Their story is intertwined with the contradictions of colonial trade and enslavement within the aspirations for freedom and prosperity that shaped the American dream. This talk highlights contemporary immigrant experiences between these two regions. \nAbout Max Pro\nMax Corona\, also known as Max Pro\, was born and raised in Chelsea\, where his family has deep roots\, with his grandparents having migrated from Cuba. Max’s artistic journey began at the age of four when he first watched his mother draw a flower. From there\, his art continued to grow\, and his creative journey expanded. An avid member of Chelsea’s community\, Max has contributed several public art pieces around the city. After spending 15 years in the healthcare industry\, he discovered peace\, solitude\, and therapy through his art. \nMax’s artwork incorporates a wide range of materials\, including recycled items\, and is inspired by colors that evoke memories of nature\, aiming to spark meaningful conversations. His love for comic books and time travel has greatly influenced his creativity. \nAbout the House\nThis building and the acreage surrounding the Governor Bellingham Cary House have been witness to over 350 years of American history. From the beginning of European settlement in the early 17th century\, when it was a bountiful place full of natural resources to the 21st century\, bustling city that now exists\, it has evolved and survived. \nThe Cary family and their extended household lived here from the 1760s until the beginning of the 20th century. Their home\, known lovingly as “the Retreat”\, was a bucolic oasis remembered fondly by both family and friends alike. At the start of America’s War of Independence\, and most notably during the Siege of Boston from April 19\, 1775\, to March 17\, 1776\, the property was used by the newly formed Continental Army as they assisted refugees escaping Boston via the Winnisimmet Ferry\, engaged in surveillance of British ships\, and defended Chelsea during a pivotal moment in the Revolution.

Organized by Old North’s clergy and congregation and modeled on the service offered for the 200th anniversary in 1975 with Pres. Gerald Ford\, this 250th Anniversary Lantern Service recalls the lights of freedom and encourages reflection on the meaning of faith\, freedom\, and American democracy today. It will include inspirational music; Paul Revere’s own recollection of his historic ride and Old North’s signal lights; Heather Cox Richardson’s address; and prayers for our nation as we begin our Semiquincentennial. The service will culminate with the lighting of the church’s historic lanterns.

Billerica Colonial Minutemen will drill with muskets\, cook over an open firepit\, and demonstrate colonial crafts. \nFamily drop-in activities (9:00 am – 4:00 pm) inspired by the American Revolution and the new Barefoot Books publication Rise Up! \nA Forum with Doris Kearns Goodwin (6:00 – 7:00 pm) on the American Revolution and its legacy. Seating is limited and advanced registration is required. \nAn outdoor concert with the Goodwin Band (7:30 – 8:30 pm)\, finishing with a view of a town-wide drone show. \nFood trucks\, an ice cream truck\, and a wine and beer truck all day and evening. \nFree Museum admission is supported by Highland Street Foundation\, and Patriots’ Day family activities are supported by the Massachusetts Society of the Cincinnati.

DESCRIPTION:Join us on April 19th for the Revolutionary History Tour Shuttle\, a special collaboration between the North Andover Historical Society and the Andover Center for History and Culture! Embark on an adventure through our shared heritage as we bring our two towns\, once united during the American Revolution\, back together for a day of family-friendly learning and fun. \nThe 1.5 hour bus tour will start at the North Andover Historical Society. The route retraces the path taken by the Militia through North Andover and Andover en route to the battle at Lexington and Concord. View historical homes and sites that stood in 1775. The 18th century owners of these homes helped shape our nation’s journey to independence. Our experienced guides from the NAHS and ACHC will share captivating stories and anecdotes about our local connections to the revolution. \nIn North Andover the bus will stop briefly for a tour of the historic kitchen and dining room at the Timothy Johnson House where you can enjoy a glass of lemonade. The bus continues on to Andover viewing more historic homes and stopping briefly at the west Andover Blanchard Upton House for an outdoor tour and a glass of apple cider. From there\, the bus returns to the North Andover Historical Society.

SUMMARY:Patriots Day Remembrance & Trolley Tour
DESCRIPTION:Every year on Patriots Day\, the members of the Danvers Alarm List Company gather to honor the brave men from Danvers who made the ultimate sacrifice at the Jason Russell House on April 19th\, 1775\, by participating in a special mini-marathon. \nThis year\, in commemoration of the 250th Anniversary of Patriots Day\, we’re expanding our programming. For the first time\, we’ll offer Trolley transportation\, allowing not only our reenactors but also members of the public to join us at each of our historic stops. Our knowledgeable reenactors will share the story of the 16-mile march made to the Battle of Menotomy and the lives of the men we lost that day. \nAt each stop of the graves and monuments dedicated to the seven Danvers men\, we will hold a brief ceremony and a volley salute. Reenactors will also bring history to life with engaging spoken dialogue aboard the Trolleys. \nTrolleys will pick-up and drop-off at the Rebecca Nurse Homestead. There is plenty of parking available but once we leave the Homestead at 7:50am we will not be returning until around 12:30pm\, so please keep this in mind. (We will have portable toilets available at the Nurse Homestead before departure and upon return.) \nLIST OF STOPS (times could vary slightly the day of)\nDepart from Nurse Homestead at 149 Pine Street\, Danvers at 7:50am (boarding will begin at 7:30am) \n8:00am – Training Field (Centre Street Danvers). The Village Training Field on Centre Street was given to the town by Deacon Nathaniel Ingersoll in 1709 as a training place. A marker at the Training Field stands as a memorial to the seven Danvers men who died on April 19\, 1775\, in Menotomy (Arlington) \n8:40am – Jacobs Gravesite (Edgehill Road Peabody). Henry Jacobs was one of the Danvers men who fell on April 19. He is buried in a family cemetery. At that time\, Peabody was part of Danvers. \n9:30am – Old South Burial Ground (Main Street Peabody). The South Burial Ground contains the graves of four Danvers men who died on April 19: Ebenezer Goldthwaite\, George Southwick\, Samuel Cook\, and Benjamin Daland. \n10:00am – Lexington Monument (Washington St. Peabody) (This stop will be the only stop with access to bathrooms until the Nurse Homestead) There will be a ceremony at the monument and a short gathering at the Bell Inn Tavern. \n11:40am – Hutchinson Home Site Marker (Water Street Danvers). Capt. Israel Hutchinson commanded a Minute company that fought in Menotomy. Hutchinson lived in a home on Water Street in Danversport\, which is no longer standing. The bodies of the Danvers dead were brought back to this house on April 20\, 1775. A granite marker marks the location of the house. \n11:50am – Reuben Keniston Grave – Leach Burial Ground (Elliot Street Danvers). Ruben Keniston was a Beverly man who marched to Menotomy with Capt. Israel Hutchinson’s company. He was killed on April 19th. \n12:25pm – Nurse Homestead Cemetery (Pine Street Danvers). The cemetery at the Nurse House contains the graves of Revolutionary War veterans Francis Nurse (great grandson of Rebecca) and Matthew Putnam. (There will be portable toilets at this location) \nSpectators are welcome to join us at any of our stops for FREE\, the Trolley tour tickets are $25 per person and are very limited space.

SUMMARY:North Bridge Program (Minute Man NHP)
DESCRIPTION:Commemorate Patriots’ Day with a National Park Service program marking the “shot heard round the world.” \nOn April 19\, 1775 British Regular soldiers search the town of Concord\, Massachusetts for stockpiles of illegal military supplies. When nearly 200 Regulars crossed Concord’s North Bridge and headed for the farm of militia Colonel James Barrett\, they left 96 men to guard the important river crossing. Meanwhile\, hundreds of local militia soldiers gathered on the hillside opposing the bridge. Those soldiers from Concord\, Lincoln\, Acton\, Bedford\, Westford\, and elsewhere watched as the British searched their homes and eventually lit fires to burn military supplies. Afraid the Regulars would burn the town\, the militia decided to act. They marched down the long causeway to a confrontation with British Soldiers guarding the bridge and ignited the American Revolution.
