DESCRIPTION:The event will include: \n– Explore the SSV Ernestina-Morrissey\, the 1894 schooner from the permanent fleet of the Massachusetts Maritime Academy\, and learn about the first British vessel captured and destroyed—the HMS Diana \n– Artillery Demonstration \n– Revolutionary-Era Militia Encampment \n– Musket Firing \n– Food Vendors and a Beer Garden \nAdditionally\, we’ll have a Governor Bellingham-Cary House Museum Open House\, as well as a 90-minute guided Boat Tour with Boston Harbor Now through the Mill Creek and Boston Bay. \nThe Battle of Chelsea Creek is a significant\, yet often forgotten\, event in the history of the American Revolution. It was the first naval engagement of the American Revolution in the spring of 1775\, as tensions between the colonists and the British were escalating. While the British controlled Boston\, they relied on supplies from the Harbor Islands. The Battle of Chelsea Creek was a crucial moment when the colonists struck back\, marking the first victory for the Army of the United Colonies. It was also the first time American forces took control of a British warship\, the HMS Diana.

As a self-educated\, masterless woman\, she felt a higher calling\, and in the final years of the American War for Independence\, Deborah bound her chest\, tied back her hair\, and enlisted in the 4th Massachusetts Regiment of the Continental Army\, as “Robert Shurtlieff.” \nA Revolution of Her Own! takes you back in time! \nJUDITH “JUDE” KALAORA \nFounder & Artistic Director \nHistory At Play™ \nJudith is a professional educator & living historian. She graduated from Syracuse University Magna cum Laude and holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting\, along with a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish Literature\, Language\, & Culture. Judith completed the Globe Education Program at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre in London. She founded History At Play™\, LLC (HAP) in 2010 to chronicle the lives of influential and often forgotten figures. SUMMARY:Red Lion Tavern Tour
DESCRIPTION:The Carlisle Historical Society is excited to offer a special tour of the historic Red Lion Tavern in Carlisle\, Massachusetts. The tavern is still in private hands after nearly 250 years and this tour marks the first time in recent history that it has been open to the public. \nVisitors will have a chance to learn about taverns in colonial times and also learn about John Heald (the Tavern’s proprietor) and his father who both served in the Revolutionary War. The tour will include the history of the building as well as some discussion about colonial architectural practices. After touring the tavern\, visitors can explore the 65 acre property including the site of the old “powder mill”\, rumored to be where Carlisle’s militiamen produced and stored their supply of gun powder in 1775. Militiamen re-enactors will also be drilling and firing muskets on the lawn. \nThe tour will take place on Saturday\, May 17th and visitors are welcome to drop in between 2:00-5:00 pm. The event is free and complimentary food and drinks will be provided. The tour is supported in part with grant funding from the Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism\, MA250\, and the Carlisle Cultural Council.

SUMMARY:Prudence Wright Re-enactment at the Pepperell Covered Bridge
DESCRIPTION:The Prudence Wright Chapter\, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution and the Pepperell 250th Anniversary Committee are pleased to announce a re-enactment of the “The Women Who Guarded the Bridge” on May 3\, 2025. \nPreviously re-enacted by the Town’s Covered Bridge Committee in 2010 at the Grand Re-Opening of the Pepperell Covered Bridge and by the DAR in Pepperell’s annual Fourth of July Parade\, this historic event is back again by popular demand. \nThe re-enactment features Pepperell’s local heroine Prudence Wright\, who assembled a band of women dressed in men’s clothing to guard the bridge over the Nashua River in Pepperell\, during the start of the Revolutionary War. Their strong will and bravery resulted in the capture of a British spy in late April of 1775. \nThe 2025 re-enactment will take place at the Prudence Wright Scenic Overlook\, alongside the historic Pepperell Covered Bridge\, on land owned by the Massachusetts Division of Fisheries & Wildlife. The Prudence Wright Overlook and the Pepperell Covered Bridge are symbols of the struggles and successes that occurred outside the battlefields of Lexington\, Concord and Boston during our ancestors’ fight for America’s independence. DESCRIPTION:Commemorate Patriots’ Day with a National Park Service program marking the “shot heard round the world.” \nOn April 19\, 1775 British Regular soldiers search the town of Concord\, Massachusetts for stockpiles of illegal military supplies. When nearly 200 Regulars crossed Concord’s North Bridge and headed for the farm of militia Colonel James Barrett\, they left 96 men to guard the important river crossing. Meanwhile\, hundreds of local militia soldiers gathered on the hillside opposing the bridge. Those soldiers from Concord\, Lincoln\, Acton\, Bedford\, Westford\, and elsewhere watched as the British searched their homes and eventually lit fires to burn military supplies. Afraid the Regulars would burn the town\, the militia decided to act. They marched down the long causeway to a confrontation with British Soldiers guarding the bridge and ignited the American Revolution. DESCRIPTION:At 2pm on Sunday\, April 20th\, the Town of Arlington will be joined by the Menotomy Minuteman and participants from many historical reenactment groups to reenact the Battle of Menotomy. Beginning at Mass Ave and Grove Street in Arlington\, this ‘running’ battle will stretch nearly one mile of Mass Ave\, ending at Medford Street. Spectators will watch several significant battle engagements. Spectators are only allowed to watch on the northern side of Mass Ave. \nAbout the Battle of Menotomy:\nThe Battle of Menotomy was the longest and bloodiest engagement of April 19th\, 1775. On that fateful day\, Menotomy (now Arlington) was a crossroads village of about 400 farmers\, millers\, tavern keepers\, and their families. Here 79 companies of minutemen from 16 towns\, 3800 militiamen in all\, surrounded and engaged His Majesty’s troops on their retreat from Concord and Lexington. DESCRIPTION:We invite YOU to join us in re-enacting part of the Townsend Minutemen’s March to Concord. \nOn April 19 1775 a cannon was fired on the Town Common to summon the Townsend Minutemen; word had just been received that the British regulars had marched on Concord to capture the arms and ammunition which the local militia had collected there. \n73 Townsend men assembled and marched to Concord that afternoon. \nThere were two companies -the North Company\, commanded by Captain Samuel Douglas\, and the South Company\, commanded by Captain James Hosley. \nIn honor and memory of these 73 Townsend Minutemen we will fire a cannon\, calling all to “arms”. We will then “march” down the Squannacook River Rail Trail to the Reed Homestead\, where there will be activities\, refreshments and a short presentation about Townsend’s history. The Townsend Historical Society will also provide 73 wooden muskets to march with and keep as souvenirs – first come first served!

DESCRIPTION:The Lexington Minute Men will conduct the 250th Anniversary Reenactment of the Civilian Evacuation of the Battle of Lexington and the Battle of Lexington on the Lexington Battle Green on Saturday\, April 19\, 2025. \nAccording to the Lexington History Museums\, on the night of April 18\, 1775\, over 700 British soldiers were sent from Boston to Concord to destroy a store of ammunition and other supplies for an anticipated war. As dawn approached on the fateful following morning\, the town militia of Lexington stood in anxious anticipation to stand in their way. The two groups squared off on the town common\, a single\, mysterious shot rang out\, and the British soldiers opened fire. When the smoke cleared\, eight Americans lay dead\, another 10 were wounded\, and a war for independence had begun. \nEach year\, the Town of Lexington and a dedicated corps of reenactors recreate this event in real time on its original site. This year\, the event will take place on the exact anniversary of the battle. \nThe passionate and committed groups of reenactors muster around 5 a.m.\, and the bell in the Belfry will ring and the Battle will commence at 5:15 a.m. \nAttendees should arrive early!

Billerica Colonial Minutemen will drill with muskets\, cook over an open firepit\, and demonstrate colonial crafts. \nFamily drop-in activities (9:00 am – 4:00 pm) inspired by the American Revolution and the new Barefoot Books publication Rise Up! \nA Forum with Doris Kearns Goodwin (6:00 – 7:00 pm) on the American Revolution and its legacy. Seating is limited and advanced registration is required. \nAn outdoor concert with the Goodwin Band (7:30 – 8:30 pm)\, finishing with a view of a town-wide drone show. \nFood trucks\, an ice cream truck\, and a wine and beer truck all day and evening. \nFree Museum admission is supported by Highland Street Foundation\, and Patriots’ Day family activities are supported by the Massachusetts Society of the Cincinnati.

DESCRIPTION:On the evening of April 18\, 1775\, Paul Revere was summoned and given the task of riding on horseback from Charlestown to Lexington\, approx. 12.5 miles\, to inform two leaders of the Sons of Liberty\, John Hancock and Samuel Adams who were staying in Lexington\, with the news that British soldiers stationed in Boston were about to march into the countryside northwest of the town. During his famous Midnight Ride\, Revere alerted the countryside of the British military movements with shouts of “the Redcoats are coming!” In the early morning on April 19\, 1775\, Capt. John Parker led 77 local militiamen and faced arriving British troops. Someone — still unknown to this day — fired a shot\, which provoked the start of the American Revolution. \nTo honor the 250th anniversary of this historic ride\, The Inn at Hastings Park\, Boston area’s only Relais & Châteaux property located in historic Lexington\, MA\, is offering a special four-course Colonial-themed feast created by Executive Chef Alissa Tsukakoshi paired with local area brews and spirits from 6 – 8 p.m. in a communal dining setting in Town Meeting Bistro. As a nod to Paul Revere\, a portrait of him on horseback is featured over the fireplace. This dinner is for adults only\, 21+ / $150/person\, plus tax & gratuity. \nFollowing the dinner at 8:15\, guests gather in the foyer of the Inn to receive a candle lit lantern and are guided on a 10-minute walk to the Hancock-Clark House to watch a 30-minute dramatized and theatrical reenactment as Paul Revere (and William Dawes)\, fellow Sons of Liberty\, rode hard from Boston arriving in Lexington just before midnight to warn Patriot leaders John Hancock and Samuel Adams\, who were staying in town\, of the impending British raid.

DESCRIPTION:On the evening of April 18\, 2025\, Boston will commemorate the 250th anniversary of Paul Revere’s legendary Midnight Ride\, a pivotal moment in American history. Through immersive activities\, participants can engage directly with historic and cultural sites in the North End and Charlestown to be a part of Boston’s revolutionary legacy. Follow Paul Revere’s departure from Boston as he walks\, rows\, and begins the ride that spurred the American Revolution. The commemoration features performance arts\, storytelling\, and crafts\, bringing history to life against the backdrop of Boston’s iconic landscape. \nThe evening begins with an open house at the Paul Revere House in the North End\, before Paul Revere traces his storied route from across the harbor\, and through the streets of Charlestown. Spectators can follow on foot from the Paul Revere House to the US Coast Guard Station Boston in a lantern-lit “parade\,” and from the USS Constitution Museum to Charlestown City Square.
