DESCRIPTION:On December 13\, 1773\, unfair British taxes were on everyone’s mind as three ships sat in Boston harbor\, carrying shipments of East India Company tea. Lexington Town Meeting concluded a multi-day debate with a resolution to stop purchasing or drinking imported British tea. The crowd spilled out onto the common behind the meeting house and made a bonfire\, throwing the entire town’s supply of tea into it. Three days later\, the Boston Tea Party would make headlines\, but Lexington was there first. \nJoin Lexington History Museums for Lexington’s Annual Tea Burning Reenactment. Take part in fun\, interactive activities to learn more about why tea was so important to the Revolution. Meet with the Lexington residents of 1773\, portrayed by the Lexington Minute Men\, to hear their side of the story\, find out where tea comes from\, and end the day by gathering around the fire and burning the tea!

From the first Continental Marine Recruiter in Plymouth 1776\, Lieutenant Seth Chapin. To Plymouth’s own Continental Marine Lieutenant James Warren Jr\, who served aboard the USS Alliance until wounded in May 1781. He is also the son of James Warren and Mercy Otis Warren. Then the Privateer Marines who perished aboard the General Arnold in a storm in Plymouth Bay on Christmas 1778. This event is a collaboration between the Marine Corps League Detachment 1306 in Plymouth and Volunteers of America Massachusetts in Plymouth. Guest of Honor for this Marine Corps Birthday Ball will be Lieutenant Colonel Robert H. Barrow USMC Ret.

DESCRIPTION:An Afternoon of Revolutionary Ipswich History with four vignettes at the Ipswich Museum and the Whipple House in Historic Ipswich\, Massachusetts. \n2:00 – 2:30 pm: Encore presentation of “Within These Walls” on the Heard House\, Ipswich Museum grounds. For 200 years\, a Georgian-style\, timber-framed house stood at the corner of Elm and County Streets in Ipswich. Today\, the house is the centerpiece of “Within These Walls” at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History. \n2:30 pm: “Ipswich\, the Birthplace of American Independence” at the Whipple House. In 1687\, the Crown-appointed governor Sir Edmond Andros instituted a new\, arbitrary tax without consulting the General Court. The Rev. John Wise of Chebacco Parish organized a swift resistance\, resulting in the arrest of the town’s leaders. \n2:45 pm -3:00 pm: “Jenny Slew\, I am here”. Jenny Slew is believed to have been the first person held as a slave to be granted freedom through trial by jury. \n3pm – 3:30 pm: The Revolutionary War letters of Joseph and Sarah Hodgkins on the Whipple House grounds. Throughout the Revolutionary War\, Lieutenant Joseph Hogkins maintained an ongoing correspondence by mail with his wife\, Sarah Perkins Hodgkins. Their exchange of letters conveyed news from the front and the Ipswich community during the war.

Bring something to sit on if you like. FREE donuts and cider will follow at the Blandford Historical Society across the street from the cemetery. The walk will take place rain or shine (except for severe weather) so bring an umbrella if rain is forecasted. SUMMARY:Life During the Revolution: A Living History Weekend at the Bidwell House
DESCRIPTION:Experience life during the American Revolution in this weekend long event at the Bidwell House Museum. \nAs you drive down Art School Road\, you will be able to leave the modern world behind and enter a time when fire was used for cooking\, everyone lived off the land and muskets were the weapon of choice. \nThe event will open on Saturday morning at 10 am and there will be talks that day about Martha Washington\, Mercy Otis Warren and coffee house culture. In between these talks will be tactical and artillery demonstrations and the camp will close at 4. \nOn Sunday morning\, the event will again begin at 10 am and the day will include talks about sutlers and Baroness Fredrika Reidesel\, whose husband fought with the British side. There will also be an afternoon tactical demonstration. \nThroughout each day\, visitors will be able to walk through the camps and talk to people portraying British and Continental soldiers\, learn about midwifery and woman’s issues and talk to the sutlers who supplied the armies.

Marshfield citizens have just learned of “the shot heard ’round the world” and the excitement in the air is palpable\, especially in the local tavern. Joshua Winslow visits the tavern to rally the local community in support of the crown. But there is discord. Some citizens may be starting to side with the patriots… \nAre you a loyalist or a rebel? DESCRIPTION:The 250th Anniversary Reenactment of The Battle of Bunker Hill aims to accurately portray the events and faithfully represent the people involved in the conflict of June 17\, 1775. Our mission is to celebrate and commemorate the actions and sacrifices of the men and women of all sides of the Battle of Bunker Hill through careful research\, public demonstrations\, civic engagement and educational outreach. Through these means\, we endeavor to increase understanding of the Battle of Bunker Hill\, and to bring to life the stories and voices of those long gone or purposefully excluded: when you see us\, think of them. \nThe event takes place at Stage Fort Park in Gloucester\, MA. Visit https://discovergloucester.com/250th-battle-of-bunker-hill-reenactment-in-gloucester-ma/ for information on parking and shuttles to the event. \nThough we would love to have Bunker Hill 250 happen in Charlestown\, there just isn’t a location in the city where it would be geographically possible to hold such a program. We encourage all participants to visit the Bunker Hill monument and museum (located at: Bunker Hill Museum Address: 43 Monument Square\, Charlestown\, MA 02129). \nRecreating the Battle\nThe first pitched battle of the American War for Independence was fought in stages. Our reenactment of the battle will do the same. The recreated battle will be broken up into a series of vignettes and lectures\, as well as the tactical demonstrations. Beginning each morning\, Colonial forces will race to build fortifications atop the hill as the Royal Navy bombards the American position to soften its defense in preparation for amphibious assault. British soldiers will then be ferried to the beachhead before charging the American lines – attacking the hill three times before taking it through bitter combat. \nBefore and after the tactical demonstrations\, interpreters portraying specific historical figures will give context to the events of June 1775\, detailing how the battle transformed their lives and our nation. Between each action\, visitors will have the opportunity to meet reenactors and learn about the perspectives of the people they portray. \nEvent Schedule: \nSaturday\, June 21 \nThe Navy Approaches:\nHalf Moon Beach\n8 – 11:30 am \nAs the battle looms\, the waters around Charlestown neck fill with Royal Navy vessels\, sent to bombard the fortifications into submission and land troops for the eventual assault. \nJoin Royal Navy sailors and the crews of the tall ships Story\, Ardelle\, Isabelle\, and Lynx\, as they discuss the roll of the navy in the Battle of Bunker Hill as well as 18th century warfare. \nCivilians Under Siege & the Military on the Move\nThe Marketplace\nAll Day \nThe citizens of Boston were able to observe the Battle of Bunker Hill from the rooftops and hills of the City. They had been under British occupation since the enforcement of the Boston Port Act a year earlier had shut down nearly all commerce to the town causing many to leave. \nInterpreters will explain civilian and military life in Massachusetts in the 1770s. Through a diversity of perspectives across race\, gender\, class\, and politics\, you will learn about the dynamic lives of 18th century Bostonians\, British military officers\, and Provincial leaders. \nThe Preparation:\nThe Redoubt\n9 – 10am \nIn the evening hours of June 16th\, 1\,200 American soldiers leave their camp at Cambridge to cross the neck onto the Charlestown peninsula. These hardened men from the country took on the work of fortifying Bunker Hill. As dawn broke\, British cannons from ships and Cobb’s Hill (Boston) open fire to try to halt the work. \nJoin the soldiers as they construct the fortifications with hand tools from the period. Learn about the backgrounds and motivations of these Americans. \nThe Landing\nHalf Moon Beach\n10 – 11am \nGeneral Gage forms British soldiers from the Boston garrison to land on the tip of the Charlestown Peninsula and form for a plan to drive the American’s from their fortifications on the Hill. As the British soldiers land\, sharpshooters from Charlestown take pot shots at them. In response British soldiers set fire to Charlestown to drive off the sharpshooters\, additionally using the smoke to mask their movements. \nWatch as British sailors and soldiers from Boston land in the harbor in 18th century boats on the Charlestown Peninsula (Half-Moon Beach) forming for their assault on the American positions. \nThe Flanking Attack\nCressy Beach\n1 – 2 pm \nWhile the British Marines make a frontal assault on the redoubt as a faint\, the elite soldiers of Gage’s force (Grenadiers and Light Infantry) attempt to flank the American fortifications by attacking down a beach on the Mystic River. These soldiers charge down the beach opposed by New Hampshire soldiers under Stark at a rail fence. The New Hampshire soldiers give an incessant fire which shatters the attack and drives back the Grenadiers and Light Infantry. \nWatch as Britain’s elite soldiers assault American flank positions (Cressy Beach). \nThe Main Assault\nBunker Hill\n4 – 5 pm \nWith the flanking attack on the beach broken\, General Howe rallies the Marines along with the remaining Grenadiers and Light Infantry to make a head-on assault at the amin redoubt and rail fence of the American line. They are slowed in their advance by the numerous farmers’ fences\, taking heavy casualties and fall back. Major John Pitcairn of the Marines is fatally wounded by Salem Poor. Howe has his men drop their packs and advances in column to negate American artillery fire. The advance in a final assault. The Americans\, having run out of powder\, begin throwing rocks in a desperate attempt to slow the British. Out of powder and overwhelmed the Americans flee the hill. General Joseph Warren of the American forces is killed in this final assault. \nWatch as American militia soldiers defend their fortifications against the attacking British soldiers. \nSunday\, June 22 \nThe Navy Approaches:\nHalf Moon Beach\n8 – 11:30 am \nAs the battle looms\, the waters around Charlestown neck are filled with Royal Navy vessels\, sent to bombard the fortifications into submission and land troops for the eventual assault. \nJoin Royal Navy sailors and the crews of the tall ships Story\, Ardelle\, Isabelle\, and Lynx\, as they discuss the roll of the navy in the Battle of Bunker Hill as well as 18th century warfare. \nCivilians Under Siege & the Military on the Move\nThe Marketplace\nAll Day \nThe citizens of Boston were able to observe the Battle of Bunker Hill from the rooftops and hills of the city. They had been under British occupation since the enforcement of the Boston Port Act a year earlier had shut down nearly all commerce to the town causing many to leave. \nInterpreters will explain civilian and military life in Massachusetts in the 1770s. Through a diversity of perspectives across race\, gender\, class\, and politics\, you will learn about the dynamic lives of 18th century Bostonians\, British military officers\, and Provincial leaders. \nThe Preparation:\nThe Redoubt\n9 – 10am \nIn the evening hours of June 16th\, 1\,200 American soldiers leave their camp at Cambridge to cross the neck onto the Charlestown peninsula. These hardened men from the country took on the work of fortifying Bunker Hill. As dawn broke\, British cannons from ships and Cobb’s Hill (Boston) open fire to try to halt the work. \nJoin the soldiers as they construct the fortifications with hand tools from the period. Learn about the backgrounds and motivations of these Americans. \nThe Landing\nHalf Moon Beach\n10 – 11am \nGeneral Gage forms British soldiers from the Boston garrison to land on the tip of the Charlestown Peninsula and form for a plan to drive the Americans from their fortifications on the Hill. As the British soldiers land\, sharpshooters from Charlestown take pot shots at them. In response British soldiers set fire to Charlestown to drive off the sharpshooters\, additionally using the smoke to mask their movements. \nWatch as British sailors and soldiers from Boston land in the harbor in 18th century boats on the Charlestown Peninsula (Half-Moon Beach) forming for their assault on the American positions. \nThe Main Assault\nBunker Hill\n1 – 2 pm \nWith the flanking attack on the beach broken\, General Howe rallies the Marines along with the remaining Grenadiers and Light Infantry to make a head-on assault at the amin redoubt and rail fence of the American line. They are slowed in their advance by the numerous farmers’ fences\, taking heavy casualties and fall back. Major John Pitcairn of the Marines is fatally wounded by Salem Poor. Howe has his men drop their packs and advances in column to negate American artillery fire. The advance in a final assault. The Americans\, having run out of powder\, begin throwing rocks in a desperate attempt to slow the British. Out of powder and overwhelmed the Americans flee the hill. After opening May 31\, it will run through September\, and it will be reprised next year for the national semiquincentennial in 2026. \nThe Essex National Heritage Commission is the primary grant sponsor of this project. \nThe exhibit intends to create a better understanding of the town’s heritage\, specifically the story of Manchester men during the Revolutionary War\, as it was fought at sea\, with additional information about the war at land and home. \nEVENT COST: \nAdmission cost for the opening and the exhibit is the same as regular self-guided tours of the Museum: $5 for individuals\, $10 for groups 2+; guided tours of the Museum are also available by request at the door at an additional cost (+$10).  Museum members are free along with youth 16 and under.

DESCRIPTION:On May 31\, 1778\, the little town of Fall River (then still Freetown) witnessed its only military action of the American Revolution at the mouth of the Quequechan River. \nOn Saturday\, May 31 and Sunday\, June 1\, you are invited to Fall River Heritage State Park to commemorate the 247th anniversary of the Battle of Fall River with a weekend-long living history event on the same riverbanks that witnessed the battle.The Battle of Fall River Reenactment Weekend (May 31 – June 1\, 2025) will feature a variety of engaging activities designed to immerse visitors in the Revolutionary War era and the history of Fall River. \nPresented by the Lafayette-Durfee Historical Foundation in partnership with The City of Fall River\, Viva Fall River\, and the Massachusetts Department of Conservation & Recreation (DCR)\, the events will be hosted at DCR Fall River Heritage State Park. This event is made possible in part by funding from the Massachusetts Office of Travel & Tourism\, the Mass Cultural Council\, the Fall River Cultural Council\, St. Anne’s Credit Union\, and BayCoast Bank. the living history event will include several local military reenactment units\, including the 54th Regiment of Foote and the 13th Continental Line. It was the first naval engagement of the American Revolution in the spring of 1775\, as tensions between the colonists and the British were escalating. While the British controlled Boston\, they relied on supplies from the Harbor Islands. The Battle of Chelsea Creek was a crucial moment when the colonists struck back\, marking the first victory for the Army of the United Colonies. It was also the first time American forces took control of a British warship\, the HMS Diana.

She graduated from Syracuse University Magna cum Laude and holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting\, along with a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish Literature\, Language\, & Culture. SUMMARY:Red Lion Tavern Tour
DESCRIPTION:The Carlisle Historical Society is excited to offer a special tour of the historic Red Lion Tavern in Carlisle\, Massachusetts. The tavern is still in private hands after nearly 250 years and this tour marks the first time in recent history that it has been open to the public. \nVisitors will have a chance to learn about taverns in colonial times and also learn about John Heald (the Tavern’s proprietor) and his father who both served in the Revolutionary War. The tour will include the history of the building as well as some discussion about colonial architectural practices. After touring the tavern\, visitors can explore the 65 acre property including the site of the old “powder mill”\, rumored to be where Carlisle’s militiamen produced and stored their supply of gun powder in 1775. Militiamen re-enactors will also be drilling and firing muskets on the lawn. \nThe tour will take place on Saturday\, May 17th and visitors are welcome to drop in between 2:00-5:00 pm. The event is free and complimentary food and drinks will be provided. The tour is supported in part with grant funding from the Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism\, MA250\, and the Carlisle Cultural Council.

SUMMARY:Liberty Pole Day in Duxbury
DESCRIPTION:Step back in time to experience the life of a soldier in the American Revolution at a military encampment and living history day on Saturday\, May 3 between noon and 4 p.m. at the Alden House Historic Site. The reenactment is part of Out to See Duxbury\, a community-wide celebration of Duxbury’s rich cultural and educational heritage. \nJoin reenactors from Colonel Bailey’s 2nd Massachusetts Regiment for military drills\, music\, and living history demonstrations. Explore blacksmithing\, colonial foodways\, linen and wool spinning demonstrations\, activities for kids\, tours of Alden House and much more. \nThere will also be a re-enactment of Duxbury’s 1775 “Council of War\,” showcasing three tumultuous days in April of 1775\, following the Battles of Lexington and Concord 250 years ago\, as Duxbury leaders determined their military response to the opening days of the war. \nAdmission is free; it is funded by a grant from the Massachusetts Society of the Cincinnati. Out to See Duxbury is sponsored by the Duxbury Community Collaborative.
