DESCRIPTION:To supplement the meager armed forces\, most early 19th-century farmers and craftsmen were required by law to serve in local militia units – the forerunner of today’s National Guard. Militia musters often saw the various militia companies of several towns coming together for a regimental muster. These would have been grand spectacles with townspeople coming out to view visiting militia companies in their dashing uniforms. Come and join us for our muster day and cheer on your favorite militia company! \nProgramming:\n-Talk to members of volunteer militia companies and learn how the militia of the early 19th century connected directly back to the American Revolution.\n-Listen to early 19th-century martial music.\n-Watch musket and cannon firing demonstrations.\n-Witness a recreated wake and military funeral for Captain Simeon Fiske\, a veteran of the American Revolution.\n-Our young visitors will get the chance to learn early 19th-century drill and marching with the militia officer’s instruction and a toy musket.\n-Learn why many New Englanders were pushing for reforms to the militia system and the role that intemperance played in those reforms.\n-Purchase some soft gingerbread\, a traditional Muster Day treat (while supplies last)

DESCRIPTION:In honor of America’s 250th Anniversary\, Ballet Magnificat! brings Anchored: The Pilgrim Story to Massachusetts. Beautifully choreographed\, Anchored inspires audiences today with its portrayal of the courage and faith of the Pilgrims\, their perilous crossing\, and their friendship which developed with Native Americans. Their legacy of religious freedom\, individual responsibility\, and equality of all people helped prepare the way for America’s independence. \nPassion\, artistry\, heartfelt worship and technical excellence define Ballet Magnificat!’s performances. The Company artists have graced stages of theaters\, opera houses\, concert halls\, and church auditoriums throughout America and Europe with their powerful portrayal of redemptive themes\, inspired by true-life stories. Anchored: The Pilgrim Story is an original work created to honor the 400th Anniversary of the Pilgrims and their lasting legacy which informed our Founding Fathers and the Declaration of Independence. The libretto for the Pilgrim Ballet was carefully researched and written by a direct descendant of William Bradford\, and beautifully choreographed and set to music by Ballet Magnificat! The groundbreaking beliefs of the Pilgrims in freedom and equality of all people before God and under the law are vividly apparent in this dramatic and moving rendition of the Pilgrim story.

SUMMARY:Lieut. Col. Archibald Campbell returns to Parker Tavern!!
DESCRIPTION:On September 26\, 2026\, Parker Tavern will host a reenactment commemorating the capture of Lieut. Col. Archibald Campbell and two companies of the 71st Highland Regiment. The transports carrying the 71st arrived in Boston Harbor\, in June of 1776\, three full months after the British army had evacuated the city. The ships were set upon by American ships and forced to surrender after a brief fight. Parker Tavern housed Lieut. Col. Campbell and seven of his officers from June of 1776 to January of 1777. Come visit the militia camp as they guard the Scottish prisoners. Learn about Scottish culture and dress. Take part in the formal tea hosted by Lieut. Col. Campbell. Pottery and weaving crafts people will be on site\, and the Tavern will be open. The event will run from 9AM to 5 PM. This program is funded in part by a grant from the Reading Cultural Council\, a local agency which is supported by Mass Cultural Council\, a state agency and by the Reading Celebration Trust.\nFor more information\, visit www.parkertavern.org

Come and see soldiers and camp-followers demonstrate 18th century skills\, crafts\, drills\, music\, cooking\, and get an up-close view of an 18th century style battle. There’s no better way to appreciate and celebrate the 250th anniversary of our nation! Camps are open on Saturday from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM\, and on Sunday from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Battles are held on both Saturday and Sunday at 1:00 PM\, but feel free to come early and leave late. Perfect for historians\, teachers\, and students. This is a FREE\, FAMILY-FRIENDLY event to the public\, hosted by the Town of Dighton and the 13th Continental Regiment. 18th Century period vendors\, and modern food trucks will be open to all throughout the day.
