SUMMARY:Prudence Wright Re-enactment at the Pepperell Covered Bridge
DESCRIPTION:The Prudence Wright Chapter\, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution and the Pepperell 250th Anniversary Committee are pleased to announce a re-enactment of the “The Women Who Guarded the Bridge” on May 3\, 2025. \nPreviously re-enacted by the Town’s Covered Bridge Committee in 2010 at the Grand Re-Opening of the Pepperell Covered Bridge and by the DAR in Pepperell’s annual Fourth of July Parade\, this historic event is back again by popular demand. \nThe re-enactment features Pepperell’s local heroine Prudence Wright\, who assembled a band of women dressed in men’s clothing to guard the bridge over the Nashua River in Pepperell\, during the start of the Revolutionary War. Their strong will and bravery resulted in the capture of a British spy in late April of 1775. \nThe 2025 re-enactment will take place at the Prudence Wright Scenic Overlook\, alongside the historic Pepperell Covered Bridge\, on land owned by the Massachusetts Division of Fisheries & Wildlife. The Prudence Wright Overlook and the Pepperell Covered Bridge are symbols of the struggles and successes that occurred outside the battlefields of Lexington\, Concord and Boston during our ancestors’ fight for America’s independence. SUMMARY:Red Lion Tavern Tour
DESCRIPTION:The Carlisle Historical Society is excited to offer a special tour of the historic Red Lion Tavern in Carlisle\, Massachusetts. The tavern is still in private hands after nearly 250 years and this tour marks the first time in recent history that it has been open to the public. \nVisitors will have a chance to learn about taverns in colonial times and also learn about John Heald (the Tavern’s proprietor) and his father who both served in the Revolutionary War. The tour will include the history of the building as well as some discussion about colonial architectural practices. After touring the tavern\, visitors can explore the 65 acre property including the site of the old “powder mill”\, rumored to be where Carlisle’s militiamen produced and stored their supply of gun powder in 1775. Militiamen re-enactors will also be drilling and firing muskets on the lawn. \nThe tour will take place on Saturday\, May 17th and visitors are welcome to drop in between 2:00-5:00 pm. The event is free and complimentary food and drinks will be provided. The tour is supported in part with grant funding from the Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism\, MA250\, and the Carlisle Cultural Council.

As a self-educated\, masterless woman\, she felt a higher calling\, and in the final years of the American War for Independence\, Deborah bound her chest\, tied back her hair\, and enlisted in the 4th Massachusetts Regiment of the Continental Army\, as “Robert Shurtlieff.” \nA Revolution of Her Own! takes you back in time! \nJUDITH “JUDE” KALAORA \nFounder & Artistic Director \nHistory At Play™ \nJudith is a professional educator & living historian. She graduated from Syracuse University Magna cum Laude and holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting\, along with a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish Literature\, Language\, & Culture. Judith completed the Globe Education Program at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre in London. She founded History At Play™\, LLC (HAP) in 2010 to chronicle the lives of influential and often forgotten figures. She researches\, writes\, produces\, & performs original productions and has a repertoire of over 16 performances. In 2024\, Judith was 1 of just over 100 civilians to attend the National Security Seminar at the U.S. Army War College in Carlisle\, PA. Judith created HAP to engage audiences worldwide\, surpassing the bar for hi-calibre in-person\, virtual\, & hybrid Immersive Living History to interpret connections between historical legacies and contemporary values.

DESCRIPTION:The event will include: \n– Explore the SSV Ernestina-Morrissey\, the 1894 schooner from the permanent fleet of the Massachusetts Maritime Academy\, and learn about the first British vessel captured and destroyed—the HMS Diana \n– Artillery Demonstration \n– Revolutionary-Era Militia Encampment \n– Musket Firing \n– Food Vendors and a Beer Garden \nAdditionally\, we’ll have a Governor Bellingham-Cary House Museum Open House\, as well as a 90-minute guided Boat Tour with Boston Harbor Now through the Mill Creek and Boston Bay. \nThe Battle of Chelsea Creek is a significant\, yet often forgotten\, event in the history of the American Revolution. It was the first naval engagement of the American Revolution in the spring of 1775\, as tensions between the colonists and the British were escalating. While the British controlled Boston\, they relied on supplies from the Harbor Islands. The Battle of Chelsea Creek was a crucial moment when the colonists struck back\, marking the first victory for the Army of the United Colonies. It was also the first time American forces took control of a British warship\, the HMS Diana.

DESCRIPTION:On May 31\, 1778\, the little town of Fall River (then still Freetown) witnessed its only military action of the American Revolution at the mouth of the Quequechan River. \nOn Saturday\, May 31 and Sunday\, June 1\, you are invited to Fall River Heritage State Park to commemorate the 247th anniversary of the Battle of Fall River with a weekend-long living history event on the same riverbanks that witnessed the battle.The Battle of Fall River Reenactment Weekend (May 31 – June 1\, 2025) will feature a variety of engaging activities designed to immerse visitors in the Revolutionary War era and the history of Fall River. \nPresented by the Lafayette-Durfee Historical Foundation in partnership with The City of Fall River\, Viva Fall River\, and the Massachusetts Department of Conservation & Recreation (DCR)\, the events will be hosted at DCR Fall River Heritage State Park. This event is made possible in part by funding from the Massachusetts Office of Travel & Tourism\, the Mass Cultural Council\, the Fall River Cultural Council\, St. Anne’s Credit Union\, and BayCoast Bank. the living history event will include several local military reenactment units\, including the 54th Regiment of Foote and the 13th Continental Line. SUMMARY:Manchester in 1775 — Manchester\, The Revolution\, and The War at Sea
DESCRIPTION:For the upcoming 250th anniversary of the American Revolution\, the Manchester-by-the-Sea Museum is preparing to tell the story of “Manchester\, The Revolution\, and The War at Sea\,” and the opening day on Saturday\, May 31\, will specially feature living history with the Ladies Association of Revolutionary America interpreting Manchester in 1775. \nThe exhibit intends to create a better understanding of the town’s heritage\, specifically the story of Manchester men during the Revolutionary War\, as it was fought at sea\, with additional information about the war at land and home. After opening May 31\, it will run through September\, and it will be reprised next year for the national semiquincentennial in 2026. \nThe Essex National Heritage Commission is the primary grant sponsor of this project. \nThe exhibit intends to create a better understanding of the town’s heritage\, specifically the story of Manchester men during the Revolutionary War\, as it was fought at sea\, with additional information about the war at land and home. \nEVENT COST: \nAdmission cost for the opening and the exhibit is the same as regular self-guided tours of the Museum: $5 for individuals\, $10 for groups 2+; guided tours of the Museum are also available by request at the door at an additional cost (+$10).  Museum members are free along with youth 16 and under.
