SUMMARY:Pole Capping Day - Colonial Reenactment of a Call to Patriots in Bedford
DESCRIPTION:Join the Bedford Minuteman Company and Minuteman Companies from the area as they converge on Willson Park in Bedford to commemorate the spirit and courage of the patriots who sparked the American Revolution. Pole Capping Day is considered the start of the Patriots Day celebration in the region. \nThe Liberty Pole Capping and Raising is a reenactment of a practice in Colonial America signifying dissatisfaction with varied rulings and conduct of the English government of that date. It is meant to be commemorative of the spirit of liberty exemplified by Bedfordians and other colonials in the early phases of the War for Independence. \nThis ceremony features a march\, displays of musketry\, and music of the period performed by the men and women of the many Minuteman Companies that come to participate. But the main event – which draws not only spectators\, but also the soldiers of His Majesty’s 10th Regiment of Foot\, intent on stopping the defiant rabble-rousing – is the raising of a tall wooden pole\, which is climbed by a Bedford Minuteman and affixed with a red knitted cap. \nAlong with the event\, there is a traditional Pancake breakfast and other activities to help kick off a Patriots Day celebration to remember.

On April 19th 1775 a midnight alarm spread across Massachusetts about the impending march of British soldiers from Boston to Concord. In 1860\, the poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow immortalized the story of Paul Revere and his midnight ride but what about the many other alarm riders that evening? \nContrary to Longfellow’s poem\, Revere never made it to Concord. A British patrol captured Revere and others at the boarder of Lexington and Lincoln\, Massachusetts near 1:00 am. Riding alongside Paul Revere\, Concord local Samuel Prescott made a daring horseback escape and spread the alarm onward. Prescott returned to the main road near Hartwell Tavern\, spreading the alarm to Lincoln before riding off to Concord. SUMMARY:250th Anniversary Paul Revere Midnight Ride Dinner & Candlelight Procession at The Inn at Hastings Park
DESCRIPTION:On the evening of April 18\, 1775\, Paul Revere was summoned and given the task of riding on horseback from Charlestown to Lexington\, approx. 12.5 miles\, to inform two leaders of the Sons of Liberty\, John Hancock and Samuel Adams who were staying in Lexington\, with the news that British soldiers stationed in Boston were about to march into the countryside northwest of the town. During his famous Midnight Ride\, Revere alerted the countryside of the British military movements with shouts of “the Redcoats are coming!” In the early morning on April 19\, 1775\, Capt. John Parker led 77 local militiamen and faced arriving British troops. Someone — still unknown to this day — fired a shot\, which provoked the start of the American Revolution. \nTo honor the 250th anniversary of this historic ride\, The Inn at Hastings Park\, Boston area’s only Relais & Châteaux property located in historic Lexington\, MA\, is offering a special four-course Colonial-themed feast created by Executive Chef Alissa Tsukakoshi paired with local area brews and spirits from 6 – 8 p.m. in a communal dining setting in Town Meeting Bistro. As a nod to Paul Revere\, a portrait of him on horseback is featured over the fireplace. This dinner is for adults only\, 21+ / $150/person\, plus tax & gratuity. \nFollowing the dinner at 8:15\, guests gather in the foyer of the Inn to receive a candle lit lantern and are guided on a 10-minute walk to the Hancock-Clark House to watch a 30-minute dramatized and theatrical reenactment as Paul Revere (and William Dawes)\, fellow Sons of Liberty\, rode hard from Boston arriving in Lexington just before midnight to warn Patriot leaders John Hancock and Samuel Adams\, who were staying in town\, of the impending British raid.

SUMMARY:Robbins Ride\, Acton Massachusetts
DESCRIPTION:Samuel Prescott\, it is thought\, arrived in Acton\, after alarming and leaving Concord\, where he awoke Captain Joseph Robbins\, one of Acton’s militia leaders\, at about 3 in the morning of the 19th. Upon hearing the news\, Captain Robbins had his 13-year-old son saddle up their horse\, whereupon the young boy took off with (or probably without) Prescott across town to alarm Captain Isaac Davis of the Acton Minutemen\, and Francis Faulkner and Deacon Hunt\, of Acton’s other militia unit. \nWe commemorate this heroic deed today as Robbins’ Ride\, and for the purposes of safety and practicality\, we combine the riders into one or two adult rider(s)\, but the rider still makes the rounds to all 4 stops that were alarmed on that fateful early morning in April of 1775\, calling out “The Regulars are out of Boston – gather your units and head to Concord!” \nWe begin at 5PM FRIDAY APRIL 18: \nRobbin’s House site\, Concord Rd\nIsaac Davis House Hayward Rd\,\nFaulkner House\, High Street\,\nLiberty Tree Farm\, Liberty Street. \nOnlookers and public visitors are asked to detour around horse and rider with police escort and use an alternate route to the three locations after the start of the event and allow Minutemen priority in their vehicles first\, from each location.

DESCRIPTION:On the evening of April 18\, 1775\, Paul Revere was summoned and given the task of riding on horseback from Charlestown to Lexington\, approx. 12.5 miles\, to inform two leaders of the Sons of Liberty\, John Hancock and Samuel Adams who were staying in Lexington\, with the news that British soldiers stationed in Boston were about to march into the countryside northwest of the town. During his famous Midnight Ride\, Revere alerted the countryside of the British military movements with shouts of “the Redcoats are coming!” In the early morning on April 19\, 1775\, Capt. John Parker led 77 local militiamen and faced arriving British troops. Someone — still unknown to this day — fired a shot\, which provoked the start of the American Revolution. \nTo honor the 250th anniversary of this historic ride\, The Inn at Hastings Park\, Boston area’s only Relais & Châteaux property located in historic Lexington\, MA\, is offering a special four-course Colonial-themed feast created by Executive Chef Alissa Tsukakoshi paired with local area brews and spirits from 6 – 8 p.m. in a communal dining setting in Town Meeting Bistro. As a nod to Paul Revere\, a portrait of him on horseback is featured over the fireplace. DESCRIPTION:The Lexington Minute Men will conduct the 250th Anniversary Reenactment of the Civilian Evacuation of the Battle of Lexington and the Battle of Lexington on the Lexington Battle Green on Saturday\, April 19\, 2025. \nAccording to the Lexington History Museums\, on the night of April 18\, 1775\, over 700 British soldiers were sent from Boston to Concord to destroy a store of ammunition and other supplies for an anticipated war. As dawn approached on the fateful following morning\, the town militia of Lexington stood in anxious anticipation to stand in their way. The two groups squared off on the town common\, a single\, mysterious shot rang out\, and the British soldiers opened fire. When the smoke cleared\, eight Americans lay dead\, another 10 were wounded\, and a war for independence had begun. \nEach year\, the Town of Lexington and a dedicated corps of reenactors recreate this event in real time on its original site. This year\, the event will take place on the exact anniversary of the battle. \nThe passionate and committed groups of reenactors muster around 5 a.m.\, and the bell in the Belfry will ring and the Battle will commence at 5:15 a.m. \nAttendees should arrive early!

DESCRIPTION:The Agawam Historical Association will host an 18th century encampment and militia muster with the 25th Continental Regiment and Green Valley Homestead reenactment groups at the historic Thomas Smith House\, 251 North West Street\, Feeding Hills on Saturday\, April 19\, 2025\, from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. in commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the Shot Heard Round the World\, and the call to arms responding to the 19 April 1775 battles of Lexington and Concord\, \nThe day’s events will include children’s activities\, demonstrations of blacksmithing\, tinsmithing\, open fire cooking\, textile arts\, and musket drills. Attendees will be able to “volunteer” for military service and drill with the 25th Continental Regiment\, who will provide instruction with wooden muskets. \nThe National Register-listed Thomas Smith House\, which had been standing for nearly two decades when the events being commemorated took place\, will be open for tours\, as well its preserved 1920s garage. \nThis event is free and open to the public.

SUMMARY:Townsend's Re-enactment of the March to Concord
DESCRIPTION:We invite YOU to join us in re-enacting part of the Townsend Minutemen’s March to Concord. \nOn April 19 1775 a cannon was fired on the Town Common to summon the Townsend Minutemen; word had just been received that the British regulars had marched on Concord to capture the arms and ammunition which the local militia had collected there. \n73 Townsend men assembled and marched to Concord that afternoon. \nThere were two companies -the North Company\, commanded by Captain Samuel Douglas\, and the South Company\, commanded by Captain James Hosley. \nIn honor and memory of these 73 Townsend Minutemen we will fire a cannon\, calling all to “arms”. We will then “march” down the Squannacook River Rail Trail to the Reed Homestead\, where there will be activities\, refreshments and a short presentation about Townsend’s history. The Townsend Historical Society will also provide 73 wooden muskets to march with and keep as souvenirs – first come first served!

DESCRIPTION:At 2pm on Sunday\, April 20th\, the Town of Arlington will be joined by the Menotomy Minuteman and participants from many historical reenactment groups to reenact the Battle of Menotomy. Beginning at Mass Ave and Grove Street in Arlington\, this ‘running’ battle will stretch nearly one mile of Mass Ave\, ending at Medford Street. Spectators will watch several significant battle engagements. Spectators are only allowed to watch on the northern side of Mass Ave. \nAbout the Battle of Menotomy:\nThe Battle of Menotomy was the longest and bloodiest engagement of April 19th\, 1775. On that fateful day\, Menotomy (now Arlington) was a crossroads village of about 400 farmers\, millers\, tavern keepers\, and their families. Here 79 companies of minutemen from 16 towns\, 3800 militiamen in all\, surrounded and engaged His Majesty’s troops on their retreat from Concord and Lexington. DESCRIPTION:Commemorate Patriots’ Day with a National Park Service program marking the “shot heard round the world.” \nOn April 19\, 1775 British Regular soldiers search the town of Concord\, Massachusetts for stockpiles of illegal military supplies. When nearly 200 Regulars crossed Concord’s North Bridge and headed for the farm of militia Colonel James Barrett\, they left 96 men to guard the important river crossing. Meanwhile\, hundreds of local militia soldiers gathered on the hillside opposing the bridge. Those soldiers from Concord\, Lincoln\, Acton\, Bedford\, Westford\, and elsewhere watched as the British searched their homes and eventually lit fires to burn military supplies. Afraid the Regulars would burn the town\, the militia decided to act. They marched down the long causeway to a confrontation with British Soldiers guarding the bridge and ignited the American Revolution. DESCRIPTION:The British Regular Army was one of the most powerful military forces in the world in the 18th century. But in the course of one fateful day\, their luck changed. On April 19\, 1775\, 750 soldiers set out on a grueling 40-mile march\, and walked straight into a revolution. In Lexington and Concord\, they fought with locals intent on thwarting their mission\, and fled back to Boston chased by thousands of American soldiers. Munroe Tavern became an important resting point on their journey. Stop by and meet members of His Majesty’s recreated 10th Regiment of Foot to see military drilling and learn more about the lives of our forgotten foes.

They arrive separately after Revere travels through Charlestown\, Somerville\, Medford and Arlington. While Dawes travels through Roxbury\, Brookline\, Cambridge and Arlington en route to Lexington.

Guardians are encouraged to drop off their children for training and return to view the battle reenactment. After the battle\, participants will have a chance to interact with members of both the Lexington Minute Men and His Majesty’s 10th Regiment of Foot. \nChoose from 10:00 – 11:15 AM or 12:30 – 1:45 PM. \n$10 per child”
