Bell; family activities; talks by historians; living historians portraying George Washington\, William Lee\, and Martha Washington; Cambridge Open Archives\, a Story Walk\, and more. \nThe house at 105 Brattle Street\, now Longfellow House-Washington’s Headquarters National Historic Site\, served as Washington’s first military headquarters of the American Revolution from July 1775-March 1776. Headquarters was a testing ground for many of the ideals\, institutions\, and questions that still define our country. DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Quock Walker Day aka Massachusetts Emancipation Day with ABCL! \nJoin us for the fifth annual Quock Walker Day celebrations in Lexington on Saturday\, July 5\, 2025. \nCelebrate the 242nd Anniversary of Massachusetts Emancipation Day and hear how the Revolutionary War and the Black Patriots of Lexington and Massachusetts set the stage for Quock Walker’s judicial victories. His 1781 civil lawsuit for battery led to the 1783 criminal case that ended slavery in Massachusetts. \nJoin us for the 5th Annual Quock Walker Day Community Celebration at the Lexington Visitors Center Lawn\, 1875 Massachusetts Avenue\, Lexington\, MA 02420 – FREE. The festivities start at 11 am with music and recitation of the Governor’s Quock Walker Day proclamation. \nFIND YOUR JOY at any age with storytellers\, Farm to Plate Caribbean American Food Truck\, a dance workshop\, Black heritage scavenger hunts\, hands-on flax processing demonstration\, military reenactors\, and musical performance by Rhythms of Ghana. Festivities close with a poetry recital at 2 pm. \nHonor the 250th anniversary of the Battle of Lexington which kickstarted the Revolutionary War and paved the way for Massachusetts to adopt a state constitution in 1780. DESCRIPTION:The Plymouth Antiquarian Society and Pilgrim Hall Museum announce their continuing partnership in a free public tour series of Plymouth’s historic Burial Hill for the 2025 season. Each first Saturday of the month a thematic tour of the ancient burying ground will reveal facets of Plymouth’s evolving story over generations. This year honors the 250th Anniversary of the American Revolution with a series theme of “Revolutionary Connections.” Each monthly tour highlights the Revolutionary era in Plymouth with insights into South Shore connections to America’s contest for independence. Presenters include local historians and authors who share their expertise on a range of topics\, highlighting art\, history\, and culture atop the open-air history museum in the heart of downtown Plymouth\, Burial Hill. \nSevere weather may cancel tour.
