DESCRIPTION:The Massachusetts Historical Society (MHS) is hosting a commemorative program marking the 250th anniversary of July 2\, 1776 – the day the Continental Congress voted for independence from Great Britain. Although the nation ultimately adopted July 4 as its official birthday\, John Adams believed July 2 would be celebrated for generations\, predicting in a letter to Abigail Adams that the day would be marked with “pomp and parade… games\, sports\, guns\, bells\, bonfires\, and illuminations.” The event will feature historical reenactors portraying John and Abigail Adams\, bringing the couple’s famous correspondence and the dramatic days surrounding independence to life\, as well as a reading of the Declaration of Independence by WCVB Newscenter 5’s anchor Maria Stephanos. \nThe event will take place alongside 1776: Declaring Independence\, the Society’s landmark exhibition featuring some of the nation’s most significant founding‑era artifacts\, including:\n– John Adams’ and Thomas Jefferson’s handwritten copies of the Declaration of Independence\n– A rare Dunlap Broadside\, the earliest printing of the Declaration\n– Original Adams family correspondence discussing the vote for independence and Adams’s prediction about July 2\n– Tea recovered from Boston Harbor after the Boston Tea Party\n– Additional manuscripts and documents illustrating how the Declaration transformed the colonies into a new nation \nThe event is free and registration is recommended to secure your spot: https://www.masshist.org/events/USA-250-birthday

DESCRIPTION:Independence Day Celebration – July 2nd at NARA Park\nThe Town of Acton is thrilled to announce the 2026 Independence Day Celebration!\nAdmission is free and open to all.\nThe event opens at 4:00 p.m. with local food vendors\, inflatables for children\, free access to NARA beach\, games\, live music beginning at 8:00 p.m. with a laser light show during the second set of the performance.\nUnlimited inflatable rides wristbands are $15 and can be purchased at the bathhouse snack bar.  \nBelow are a number of event details and answers to FAQ’s that will help prepare you for the event.\n1 – Event Location: NARA Park at 25 Ledge Rock Way in Acton\, MA \n2 – Parking: Will be provided onsite on a first-come first-served basis.\n•	Parking areas are located at 71 Quarry Road in the lot and ball fields.\n•	Accessible parking will be provided to those with a valid handicap parking tag issued by the Commonwealth (either license plate or placard) at the lot abutting the NARA Bathhouse\, 25 Ledge Rock Way.\n•	An onsite shuttle van will be provided to assist attendees from their vehicles to the NARA Amphitheater and Pavilion.\n•	Parking is prohibited on all surrounding streets and will be marked with No Parking signs. \n3 – What to Bring – What Not to Bring?\n•	Bags are permitted but are subject to search.\n•	Please feel free to bring chairs\, blankets\, and picnics.\n•	No tents\, pop-up tents\, canopies\, or umbrellas.\n•	Please bring sunscreen and bug spray.\n•	You may bring food and drink from home.\n•	Alcohol and drugs are prohibited.\n•	Leave hard coolers at home\, but soft coolers are permitted.\n•	No glass containers.\n•	No fire pits or grilling will be allowed\, per the fire department’s order.\n•	No sparklers or fireworks.\n•	No drones.\n•	There will be trash barrels\, but please consider taking home what you bring.\n•	Please keep your dog at home for their safety and the safety and comfort of others. \n4 – Will there be food?\n•	Yes. There will be a variety of local food vendors on site beginning at 4pm. Due to heavy demand on the WIFI\, we highly recommend using cash for your purchases.    \n5 – Entertainment Details:\n•	Family Fun Time will be from 4-7:15 PM.  Beach and swim are free during the event and wristbands can be purchased for $15 for unlimited inflatable slides\, slip n’ slide\, games\, bounce houses.\n•	Welcoming Ceremony 7:15-8:00 PM.  Welcoming remarks by our Select Board\, and local legislators\, Town Management\, Preface to the reading of the Declaration of Independence with Alisa Nicol and Michael Gowing reading the Declaration of Independence.  Kiki Donahue will sing the National Anthem and God Bless America\, Acton Minutemen will perform fife and drum and Musket Volley\, Acton 250th Committee\, Acton Parks and Recreation Commission\, and Acton Parks and Recreation Staff\, Sponsor Appreciation.\n•	Live music: “The Boss Project” 8:00-9:00 PM will perform immediately after opening remarks. The Boss Project is the premier Bruce Springsteen and E Street tribute band.\n•	Intermission 9:00-9:20 PM:   Presentation of the 2025 Recreation Volunteer of the Year Award to Marc Duci. DESCRIPTION:The Sons and Daughters of Liberty return for an evening of history\, games\, merriment\, and all things “Boston Tea Party”! Costumed museum interpreters will engage and educate through interaction and activities\, including knot tying\, portrait drawing\, face painting\, photo booth\, colonial games such as Nine Men’s Morris\, Road to Boston\, and Shut the Box! Guests will have access to the fully-restored vessels Eleanor and the brig Beaver to throw tea crates into Boston’s historic harbor! Join us in Abigail’s Tea Room to taste the five tea blends that were at the center point of this iconic event. Beer\, wine\, clam chowder\, and an assortment of cookies and scones\, along with many other items\, will be available for purchase. Popcorn is FREE!
