SUMMARY:Resistance at Home
DESCRIPTION:The American Revolution was fought not only on the battlefield\, but also in kitchens\, workshops\, and homes across the colonies. As taxes on everyday necessities like tea and textiles increased\, colonists found creative ways to resist by spinning their own cloth\, brewing herb- and fruit-based Liberty Tea\, and relying on homemade goods instead of British imports. \nJoin the 18th Century Cook Mike Smith\, spinner Zoe Lawson\, and several other traditional craftspeople on the Eustis Estate grounds for live demonstrations and hands-on activities that reveal how ordinary people turned everyday work into acts of resistance. Many of these stories are drawn from Historic New England’s exhibition Myth & Memory: Stories of the American Revolution\, now showing at the Eustis Estate. \nMembers $25; Nonmembers $30; Child (18 and under) Free. \nPlease call (617) 994-6600 for more information. \nYour ticket includes admission to the Eustis Estate and to the Myth & Memory exhibition.

SUMMARY:32nd Cambridge Carnival International and Pan in the Park Panorama Showcase
DESCRIPTION:This year’s Carnival theme has carried over from 2025 with the theme\, The Cultural Revolution Starts Here and Never Ends. Cambridge Carnival we will celebrate the revolutionary legacies of Afro-Caribbean and African American communities. The theme draws on the origins of the Carnival tradition in Trinidad and Tobago\, where enslaved Africans\, denied the right to celebrate their heritage\, created secret festivities to mock their oppressors. This act of resistance and cultural assertion is central to the 2026 Carnival\, honoring these legacies while connecting them to the broader struggle for freedom.\nMasqueraders and revelers will represent the vibrant resistance of enslaved peoples and their cultural pride\, inspired by the legacy and contributions to Massachusetts’ revolutionary heritage. We will spotlight Afro-Caribbean and African American contributions to freedom. Join us and be part of our history!

SUMMARY:Boston: Harbor History Waterfront Walking Tour
DESCRIPTION:Boston Harbor has undergone significant transformation over four centuries. Experience Boston’s rich maritime heritage and contemporary vibrancy on a 1.5-hour stroll along the Boston Harborwalk\, led by an expert local guide. The tour begins at the Boston Harbor Islands Welcome Center on the Rose Kennedy Greenway—site of the “Big Dig”—and concludes at Fan Pier in the dynamic Seaport district\, offering exceptional views throughout. \nThis small group walking tour explores the evolution of Boston’s waterfront\, from its origins as a colonial port in the British Empire; through its development as a major center for shipping\, fishing\, and global trade; to its rebirth as a hub for modern commerce\, tourism\, and recreation. As you venture through the heart of the Boston Harborwalk\, gain insight into the city’s significant efforts to expand and revitalize its waterfront infrastructure\, greenspace\, and public access. \nHub Town Tours delivers a compelling introduction to Boston’s identity as America’s “city by the sea.” Hear engaging stories as you pass historic landmarks and architectural highlights\, illustrating the remarkable shoreline transformation from an industrial area and “dirty water” dumping ground to a vibrant public space beside one of the cleanest harbors in the United States.

SUMMARY:Our Founding Mothers and Fathers: More Revolutionary War Connections to the Salem Witch Trials
DESCRIPTION:Each year we meet hundreds\, if not thousands\, of individuals who can trace their family line back to the Salem witch trials. We often tell visitors that the English colonists of 1692 were the founding fathers and mothers of our country. They were themselves descended from the earliest settlers\, who were establishing a new country and took the biblical instruction “be fruitful and multiply” to heart. \nIt is fascinating to consider the many connections between the Salem witch trials and the Revolutionary War generation\, particularly the one most often referred to as our “Founding Fathers.” Part II of our Rev250 lecture series will focus on four more notable connections\, including witchcraft skeptic Robert Calef\, Ipswich court clerk Thomas Wade\, condemned witch Mary Bradbury\, and accuser Bathsheba Pope. \nJoin us on Thursday\, September 17th at 1:00 pm for this free\, virtual program. Registration is required for this event.
