SUMMARY:Opening Reception: “The Midnight Ride” by Rixy
DESCRIPTION:Come celebrate the new 2026 Dewey Square Mural with artists\, friends\, and community in downtown Boston! \nJoin artist Rixy and The Greenway on Saturday\, June 27 from 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM for an afternoon of family-friendly music\, art activities\, and food trucks to celebrate the opening of her new mural\, “The Midnight Ride\,” produced in partnership with Embrace and Everyone250. \nRixy’s practice in contemporary street art celebrates the surrealism found within intersectional feminism and cultural belonging. Building on Latinx-Caribbean and New England roots\, their world-building creates vibrant\, bold\, and radically imaginative third spaces between public and private walls\, depicted through stylized paintings\, sculptures\, murals\, and installations. \nThe 2026 Dewey Square Mural is supported in part by Massachusetts250\, the Massachusetts Office of Travel & Tourism\, Meet Boston\, and Holland America. \nProject support for the Dewey Square Mural is generously provided by Meet Boston and The Lynch Foundation.

SUMMARY:The Revolutions of The Ashley House
DESCRIPTION:Discover how the ideals of liberty and justice played out in complex ways within this 18th-century homestead on a thought-provoking guided tour. \nThis wasn’t just the home of prominent patriot John Ashley and his family\, but also of the people they enslaved here. One of them\, Elizabeth ‘Mum Bett’ Freeman\, has long been lauded for her courageous and impactful freedom suit that helped end slavery in Massachusetts. While Freeman has reached near legendary status\, the stories of other enslaved people\, including her daughter Betsey\, her co-defendant Brom\, brothers Zach and Adam Mullen\, John Sheldon\, Harry\, Caesar\, and Mary are just being rediscovered through recent\, ongoing research. \nSet against the backdrop of Revolutionary-era New England\, the tour offers a deeper\, more inclusive understanding of liberty\, justice\, and the power of individual courage. \nPre-registration is required as space is limited.

SUMMARY:Dancing in the Revolution: The Politics of Dance
DESCRIPTION:In the colonial period\, and during the revolution\, dance and music became intertwined with politics\, religion and economics. The careers of William Turner\, a dancing master in Boston\, and Thomas Pike\, a dancing master in Philadelphia\, affected each other\, and were affected by the times. They also include information on Mary Cowley\, a dancing mistress in Newport\, Rhode Island\, who managed to avoid political entanglements\, and taught dancing to the Americans\, British\, and French.
