SUMMARY:Battle of Gloucester Reenactment Events
DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, June 20 and Sunday\, June 21\, witness the Stage Fort Park transform into 18th-century Gloucester\, through battle reenactments\, both by land and sea\, civilian encampments\, historical programming\, and more. \nThe Battle of Gloucester is one of the lesser known battles of the Revolutionary War that played a major factor in the formation of the Continental Navy. The American soldiers’ ability to defeat the British Navy\, the most powerful of the time\, as they attempted to raid the Gloucester Harbor\, instilled a confidence in the Americans that sparked the eventual creation and birth of the U.S. Navy. \nBattle reenactments will be held at 10 a.m. (by sea) and 2 p.m. (by land) on both Saturday and Sunday. Throughout the day\, visitors can meet citizens of 1775 Gloucester\, browse 18th century shops\, and explore a Revolutionary War Encampment.

SUMMARY:NO RECOMBINATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION
DESCRIPTION:On a hot summer evening in 1976\, the Cambridge City Council faced a packed hearing room—and a decision that would echo across the globe. \nAt the center of it all stood Mayor Al Vellucci: sharp-tongued\, fearless\, and ready to take on science itself. The issue? A new biohazard lab designed for groundbreaking recombinant DNA research—celebrated by some as the future of science\, feared by others as the birthplace of “Frankenstein bacteria.” Nobel Prize–winning scientists\, passionate citizens\, politicians\, and the global press all converged on Cambridge to confront one explosive question: Who gets to decide the boundaries of scientific discovery? \nFifty years later\, step back in time with an immersive theatrical experience staged in the very same Cambridge City Hall hearing room where this conversation took place. Relive the tension\, the debate\, and the moment that turned local politics into a worldwide reckoning and that formed the Kendall Square that we know today. \nStay after the show to engage in thought-provoking conversation about the legacy of the hearing\, the power of public oversight\, and the future of community-driven science. \nNo Recombination Without Representation is a partnership between the MIT Museum\, Central Square Theater\, and the City of Cambridge. Performances will occur at Sullivan Chamber in Cambridge City Hall. All shows are free and open to the public. \nThis production was made possible through the generous contributions of MIT Museum supporters Phil and Ann Sharp and MIT’s Department of Science\, Technology\, and Society. This program is part of the MIT Museum’s year-long exploration of TIME and is part of the Massachusetts 250 activities celebrating the many “firsts” and innovations created in our state through the last 250 years.

SUMMARY:America's Food at 250!
DESCRIPTION:America’s Food at 250: \nWhat is the state of American food on its 250th birthday? In this talk we’ll look at all the flavors\, dishes and cooks that got us here\, from the Indigenous ingredients that shape regional American cuisine\, to the influence of the African kitchen\, to the fast food revolution. \nAbout the Speaker: \nSarah Lohman is originally from Hinckley\, Ohio where she began working in a museum at the age of 16\, cooking historical food over a wood-burning stove. She graduated with a BFA from the Cleveland Institute of Art in 2005. For her undergraduate thesis\, she opened a temporary restaurant/installation that reinterpreted food of the Colonial era for a modern audience. Lohman moved to New York City in 2006 and worked as Video Producer for New York magazine’s food blog\, Grub Street. She chronicled her personal explorations in culinary history on her blog\, Four Pounds Flour\, from 2008-2018. \nLohman’s most recent book Endangered Eating: America’s Vanishing Foods\, was released by W.W. Norton & Co. in October 2023. The book is a New York Times Editors’ Choice and was named one of the Best Books of 2023 by Amazon\, Food & Wine\, and Adam Gopnik on the Milk Street podcast. Lohman’s first book\, Eight Flavors: The Untold Story of American Cuisine\, was released by Simon & Schuster in December 2016. An Amazon bestseller\, the Atlantic called it “Richly researched\, intriguing\, and cleverly written.” Eight Flavors is currently taught in undergraduate classes at Purdue and Pennsylvania State University. Her third book\, Ice Cream Land\, will be released Summer 2027. \nOver her career\, Lohman’s work has been featured in The New York Times\, The Wall Street Journal\, The Washington Post\, as well as on All Things Considered\, CNN\, Gimlet Media\, and NHK Japan. SUMMARY:Opening Reception: “The Midnight Ride” by Rixy
DESCRIPTION:Come celebrate the new 2026 Dewey Square Mural with artists\, friends\, and community in downtown Boston! \nJoin artist Rixy and The Greenway on Saturday\, June 27 from 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM for an afternoon of family-friendly music\, art activities\, and food trucks to celebrate the opening of her new mural\, “The Midnight Ride\,” produced in partnership with Embrace and Everyone250. \nRixy’s practice in contemporary street art celebrates the surrealism found within intersectional feminism and cultural belonging. Building on Latinx-Caribbean and New England roots\, their world-building creates vibrant\, bold\, and radically imaginative third spaces between public and private walls\, depicted through stylized paintings\, sculptures\, murals\, and installations. \nThe 2026 Dewey Square Mural is supported in part by Massachusetts250\, the Massachusetts Office of Travel & Tourism\, Meet Boston\, and Holland America. \nProject support for the Dewey Square Mural is generously provided by Meet Boston and The Lynch Foundation.

SUMMARY:DECLARATIONS - A World Premiere Choral Work
DESCRIPTION:Ensemble Altera and Christopher Lowrey\, director \nDECLARATIONS\nA World-Premiere Choral Work by Piers Connor Kennedy\nIn commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence \nSaturday\, June 27\, 2026\, at 7:00 pm\nOld South Church\n645 Boylston St.\, Boston at Copley Square \nTickets $20 / $40 / $60 available at www.ensemblealtera.com \nThis June\, Ensemble Altera presents a newly commissioned work that reflects on the American experiment 250 years on: where it began\, how it has evolved\, and what it asks of us today. At a time when the language of the founding feels both distant and urgently present\, Declarations offers a space to listen with fresh ears\, through music\, for clarity\, complexity\, and perhaps even common ground.
