This exhibition engages with the memories and mythologies embedded in this collection\, calling attention to how we remember the American Revolution and reckon with its legacy. 𝘔𝘺𝘵𝘩 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘔𝘦𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘺 spotlights the deeply personal experiences of individuals\, families\, and communities caught up in extraordinary circumstances\, organized around the themes of Resistance\, Loyalty\, Liberty\, and Memory. This intimacy invites audiences to consider what it was like to live through these historic events and to contribute in small and not-so-small ways to the shaping of a new nation.

DESCRIPTION:This special tour looks at the years leading up to and during the American Revolution through the eyes and words of the women of the Quincy family. Through their letters and diaries\, learn how the war affected the day-to-day lives of the family of Josiah and Ann Quincy\, including their daughters Hannah\, Betsy\, and Nancy\, and daughter-in-law Abigail. The high social standing of the Quincy family and their many connections meant these women interacted with well-known figures like John and Abigail Adams\, Benjamin Franklin\, and the Marquis de Lafayette. DESCRIPTION:Staged at Historic Deerfield\, A Stake in the Ground: 1774 is a series of three site-specific plays\, set in Deerfield\, MA\, on the eve of the American Revolution. Each performance includes all three plays and will end with a post-show conversation.  \nIn the summer of 1774\, seeds of revolution begin to germinate in Deerfield when a Liberty Pole is brought to town. The characters in three new one-act plays explore the political divisions\, tangled family relations\, and the complexities of enslavement from all sides. Join this vibrant\, immersive examination of the historical split that will define America. \nProduced by Plays in Place\, written by Talya Kingston\, Valyn Lyric Turner\, and Patrick Gabridge\, and directed by Brianna Sloane\, “A Stake In The Ground: 1774” will be performed outdoors at the locations* near where the characters lived in the past\, including outside the Ashley House\, the Allen House\, and the Stebbins House. \nLocation & Logistics: The production is performed outdoors at the locations near where the characters lived in 1774\, including the Ashley House\, the Allen House\, and the Stebbins House. * \nWeather Policy: Shows take place rain or shine. In the event of inclement weather\, the production will move indoors to the Deerfield Community Center. \nAccessibility: Most performances (except for the weekend of July 31–August 2) are held outside. SUMMARY:Myth and Memory: Stories of the American Revolution
DESCRIPTION:𝘔𝘺𝘵𝘩 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘔𝘦𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘺: 𝘚𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘈𝘮𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘙𝘦𝘷𝘰𝘭𝘶𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 brings together material from Historic New England’s vast permanent collection of objects and archival materials to explore the multifaceted history of the American Revolution as it played out in New England. These objects tell the stories of everyday people whose lives were linked by the shared experience of revolution. This exhibition engages with the memories and mythologies embedded in this collection\, calling attention to how we remember the American Revolution and reckon with its legacy. DESCRIPTION:Staged at Historic Deerfield\, A Stake in the Ground: 1774 is a series of three site-specific plays\, set in Deerfield\, MA\, on the eve of the American Revolution. Each performance includes all three plays and will end with a post-show conversation.  \nIn the summer of 1774\, seeds of revolution begin to germinate in Deerfield when a Liberty Pole is brought to town. The characters in three new one-act plays explore the political divisions\, tangled family relations\, and the complexities of enslavement from all sides. Join this vibrant\, immersive examination of the historical split that will define America. \nProduced by Plays in Place\, written by Talya Kingston\, Valyn Lyric Turner\, and Patrick Gabridge\, and directed by Brianna Sloane\, “A Stake In The Ground: 1774” will be performed outdoors at the locations* near where the characters lived in the past\, including outside the Ashley House\, the Allen House\, and the Stebbins House. \nLocation & Logistics: The production is performed outdoors at the locations near where the characters lived in 1774\, including the Ashley House\, the Allen House\, and the Stebbins House. * \nWeather Policy: Shows take place rain or shine. In the event of inclement weather\, the production will move indoors to the Deerfield Community Center. \nAccessibility: Most performances (except for the weekend of July 31–August 2) are held outside. DESCRIPTION:This year marks the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Through an art-making opportunity\, reflect on what the document means 250 years later and how the American Revolution relates to other protest movements and revolutions that have occurred in the United States. These objects tell the stories of everyday people whose lives were linked by the shared experience of revolution. This exhibition engages with the memories and mythologies embedded in this collection\, calling attention to how we remember the American Revolution and reckon with its legacy. 𝘔𝘺𝘵𝘩 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘔𝘦𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘺 spotlights the deeply personal experiences of individuals\, families\, and communities caught up in extraordinary circumstances\, organized around the themes of Resistance\, Loyalty\, Liberty\, and Memory. This intimacy invites audiences to consider what it was like to live through these historic events and to contribute in small and not-so-small ways to the shaping of a new nation.
