DESCRIPTION:The Agawam Historical Association will host an 18th century encampment and militia muster with the 25th Continental Regiment and Green Valley Homestead reenactment groups at the historic Thomas Smith House\, 251 North West Street\, Feeding Hills on Saturday\, April 19\, 2025\, from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. in commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the Shot Heard Round the World\, and the call to arms responding to the 19 April 1775 battles of Lexington and Concord\, \nThe day’s events will include children’s activities\, demonstrations of blacksmithing\, tinsmithing\, open fire cooking\, textile arts\, and musket drills. Attendees will be able to “volunteer” for military service and drill with the 25th Continental Regiment\, who will provide instruction with wooden muskets. \nThe National Register-listed Thomas Smith House\, which had been standing for nearly two decades when the events being commemorated took place\, will be open for tours\, as well its preserved 1920s garage. \nThis event is free and open to the public.

DESCRIPTION:250 years ago\, Needham residents helped repel British attacks on Lexington and Concord. The East Needham Militia’s 12.6-mile march to join the battle started at the Townsend Green (Nehoiden and Central Ave) and ended in Arlington by the Jason Russell House (which still stands). The fighting in Arlington was some of the heaviest of the day\, and five of Needham’s own gave their lives in the first battle to create our nation.\nFor those up who want to see the actual route but not walk it (there is a group walking the 12.6 miles)\, the bus tour may be for you! The bus and tour guide will depart from the Needham History Center & Museum at 1:30 PM. We plan to arrive at the Jason Russell House around 2:45pm – just as the walkers are arriving.\nAt our destination\, we will tour the Jason Russell House with its many musket ball strikes\, commemorate the sacrifice our fellow townspeople made\, and enjoy a packed lunch.\nRegister today at needhamhistory.org. His legacy is marked by the prominent slate marker that stands proudly in the cemetery. Robinson was not just a military leader; he served as a town selectman and was a courageous commander who led three Westford Minutemen companies to the North Bridge in Concord on that fateful morning of April 19\, 1775. It was here that his men bravely confronted British regulars\, firing what would become known as “the shot heard ’round the world.” Colonel Robinson also fought alongside many of these men at the Battle of Bunker Hill\, showcasing his valor and commitment to our freedom. \nThe cemetery is steeped in history\, located at the intersection of Concord and Country roads. Originally\, this land belonged to Deacon Joshua Fletcher\, one of Westford’s first taxpayers. After his daughter married Samuel Parker\, the property eventually passed to Nathan Proctor\, who generously donated what was then called West Burying Ground to the town. When Westford formally took over the cemetery’s care in 1761\, many founding citizens found their final resting place there\, making it a significant site of remembrance \nColonel Robinson is interred alongside 18 of his fellow Revolutionary War veterans. In 1902\, the Sons of the American Revolution paid homage to their sacrifices by placing iron Maltese crosses on their graves. \nExcitingly\, in 2025\, our nation will be celebrating the 250th anniversary of the start of the Revolutionary War! DESCRIPTION:At 2pm on Sunday\, April 20th\, the Town of Arlington will be joined by the Menotomy Minuteman and participants from many historical reenactment groups to reenact the Battle of Menotomy. Beginning at Mass Ave and Grove Street in Arlington\, this ‘running’ battle will stretch nearly one mile of Mass Ave\, ending at Medford Street. Spectators will watch several significant battle engagements. Spectators are only allowed to watch on the northern side of Mass Ave. \nAbout the Battle of Menotomy:\nThe Battle of Menotomy was the longest and bloodiest engagement of April 19th\, 1775. On that fateful day\, Menotomy (now Arlington) was a crossroads village of about 400 farmers\, millers\, tavern keepers\, and their families. Here 79 companies of minutemen from 16 towns\, 3800 militiamen in all\, surrounded and engaged His Majesty’s troops on their retreat from Concord and Lexington. DESCRIPTION:Commemorate Patriots’ Day with a National Park Service program marking the “shot heard round the world.” \nOn April 19\, 1775 British Regular soldiers search the town of Concord\, Massachusetts for stockpiles of illegal military supplies. When nearly 200 Regulars crossed Concord’s North Bridge and headed for the farm of militia Colonel James Barrett\, they left 96 men to guard the important river crossing. Meanwhile\, hundreds of local militia soldiers gathered on the hillside opposing the bridge. Those soldiers from Concord\, Lincoln\, Acton\, Bedford\, Westford\, and elsewhere watched as the British searched their homes and eventually lit fires to burn military supplies. Afraid the Regulars would burn the town\, the militia decided to act. They marched down the long causeway to a confrontation with British Soldiers guarding the bridge and ignited the American Revolution. At the time of the Revolutionary War\, it was owned by Loyalists\, Dr. Charles and Elizabeth Russell\, who fled to Antigua when the war began. \nGropius House\, 1938\n68 Baker Bridge Road\, Lincoln\, MA \nHome \n\nExplore a revolution! Walter Gropius\, founder of the German design school known as the Bauhaus\, was one of the most influential architects of the 20th century. Modest in scale\, the 1938 Gropius family home was revolutionary in impact. DESCRIPTION:Paul Revere & William Dawes arrive separately from the City of Boston on horseback to warn the residents of Menotomy (former Arlington) of the incoming British Regulars! Their event will take place in front of Arlington Town Hall. A small ceremony will occur when they arrive and an interactive time with the crowd. Event is accompanied by arts and crafts and lawn games in Robbins Gardens.

They arrive separately after Revere travels through Charlestown\, Somerville\, Medford and Arlington. While Dawes travels through Roxbury\, Brookline\, Cambridge and Arlington en route to Lexington.
