DESCRIPTION:Join friends and neighbors in this one of a kind collective choral event! Led and arranged by beloved NYC music leader Kenter Davies (who grew up in Sudbury!)\, we’ll explore harmony\, free our voices\, and build community through the song “What a Wonderful World” by Louis Armstrong. There’s no auditions\, no experience necessary\, and no seeking of perfection\, We’ll just be making music for music-making’s sake! \nA timeless classic about the beauty of the natural world and the kindness we can afford one another as humans\, “What a Wonderful World” feels more important than ever to sing. We’ll explore a choral arrangement of the tune featuring lush\, jazzy harmonies. \nDuring our time together we will: \n○ Play singing games to activate our voices\, bodies\, and connection to one another \n○ Work through the song section by section\, infusing some musicality as we go \n○ Discuss the lyrics of the song and what meaning we can find in it \n○ Sing through the song a bunch and explore the different journeys it may take us on! \nA week prior to the event\, you’ll receive the sheet music and vocal demos arrangement of the song to use as a resource. You don’t have to be able to read sheet music\, you can absolutely learn by ear! We encourage folks to arrive familiar with the arrangement\, but there’s no pressure to learn everything in advance. The evening ceremony will feature a lantern-light procession\, poetry\, music\, and a recitation of the names of the soldiers who gave their lives on that “ever-memorable” 19th of April. \nCeremony 7:45 pm – 8:30 pm\nLuminaria 7:30 pm- 9:00 pm \nThe path from the North Bridge Visitor Center to the North Bridge will be lighted with 122 luminaries to honor those who lost their lives in the battle. \nLantern light procession* starts at North Bridge Visitor Center\, 174 Liberty St\, Concord\, MA\n*To participate in the lantern-light procession\, please provide your own REAL candle lantern. DESCRIPTION:Lexington was preparing for battle long before British soldiers arrived on April 19th\, 1775. The day before\, Paul Revere and William Dawes\, fellow Sons of Liberty\, rode hard from Boston\, arriving in town just before midnight. Their destination: the home of Reverend Jonas Clarke\, cousin to patriot leader John Hancock. Their mission: To warn John Hancock and Samuel Adams of the impending British raid. Their arrival would start the chain of events leading to armed rebellion on Lexington Green at dawn the next day.

DESCRIPTION:Samuel Prescott\, it is thought\, arrived in Acton\, after alarming and leaving Concord\, where he awoke Captain Joseph Robbins\, one of Acton’s militia leaders\, at about 3 in the morning of the 19th. Upon hearing the news\, Captain Robbins had his 13-year-old son saddle up their horse\, whereupon the young boy took off with (or probably without) Prescott across town to alarm Captain Isaac Davis of the Acton Minutemen\, and Francis Faulkner and Deacon Hunt\, of Acton’s other militia unit. \nWe commemorate this heroic deed today as Robbins’ Ride\, and for the purposes of safety and practicality\, we combine the riders into one or two adult rider(s)\, but the rider still makes the rounds to all 4 stops that were alarmed on that fateful early morning in April of 1775\, calling out “The Regulars are out of Boston – gather your units and head to Concord!” \nWe begin at 5PM FRIDAY APRIL 18: \nRobbin’s House site\, Concord Rd\nIsaac Davis House Hayward Rd\,\nFaulkner House\, High Street\,\nLiberty Tree Farm\, Liberty Street. \nOnlookers and public visitors are asked to detour around horse and rider with police escort and use an alternate route to the three locations after the start of the event and allow Minutemen priority in their vehicles first\, from each location.

DESCRIPTION:On the evening of April 18\, 2025\, Boston will commemorate the 250th anniversary of Paul Revere’s legendary Midnight Ride\, a pivotal moment in American history. Through immersive activities\, participants can engage directly with historic and cultural sites in the North End and Charlestown to be a part of Boston’s revolutionary legacy. Follow Paul Revere’s departure from Boston as he walks\, rows\, and begins the ride that spurred the American Revolution. The commemoration features performance arts\, storytelling\, and crafts\, bringing history to life against the backdrop of Boston’s iconic landscape. \nThe evening begins with an open house at the Paul Revere House in the North End\, before Paul Revere traces his storied route from across the harbor\, and through the streets of Charlestown. Spectators can follow on foot from the Paul Revere House to the US Coast Guard Station Boston in a lantern-lit “parade\,” and from the USS Constitution Museum to Charlestown City Square. DESCRIPTION:In celebration of the American Revolution’s ideals of freedom and equality\, ArtsArlington has invited the fber artists of Princeton Sankofa Stitchers Modern Quilt Guild to share their powerful quilt blocks on Patriots Day Weekend. Guild members Mada Coles Galloway\, Lesyslie Rackard & Tarsha-Nicole Taylor will be at Mystic Open Studio during visiting hours to share their perspectives and expertise; organized by Juandamarie Gikandi. \nThe Princeton Sankofa Stitchers Modern Quilt Guild (PSSMQG) honors the legacy of African American quilting by celebrating Harriett Powers (1837–1910)\, a Black quilter and folk artist born enslaved in Madison County\, Georgia. PSSMQG has faithfully recreated Powers’ “Pictorial Quilt” in a modern context\, using their own vibrant fabrics and contemporary sensibilities. \nPowers’ quilts are considered some of the fnest examples of African American art and have made lasting contributions to American cultural heritage. Only two of her quilts are known to survive: the “Bible Quilt” (1886)\, held at the Smithsonian Institution\, and the “Pictorial Quilt” (1888)\, housed at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. DESCRIPTION:To kick off Boston’s Patriots’ Day weekend celebrations in partnership with the City of Boston\, Old North Illuminated will stage a free reading of the hit play Revolution’s Edge behind Old North Church on Paul Revere Mall. Mayor Michelle Wu and other local officials will attend the play and give remarks to commemorate this historic anniversary. Written by Patrick Gabridge and produced by Plays in Place\, Revolution’s Edge is a gripping 45-minute historical drama that ran at Old North Church in the summers of 2023 and 2024. Guests will be greeted with live music before brief speaking remarks welcome the crowd and introduce the 45-minute costumed read of the play. Old North’s lanterns will light up soon after the play’s conclusion\, at the beginning of the reenactment of Revere’s row across the Charles River.

DESCRIPTION:The Old North Church is offering a traditional Lantern Service on Friday\, April 18\, 2025 at 7:00pm in honor of the 250th anniversary of the “two if by sea” signal from the church’s steeple on the eve of the American Revolution. Dr. Heather Cox Richardson\, acclaimed author and professor of history at Boston College\, will deliver the keynote address. Organized by Old North’s clergy and congregation and modeled on the service offered for the 200th anniversary in 1975 with Pres. Gerald Ford\, this 250th Anniversary Lantern Service recalls the lights of freedom and encourages reflection on the meaning of faith\, freedom\, and American democracy today. It will include inspirational music; Paul Revere’s own recollection of his historic ride and Old North’s signal lights; Heather Cox Richardson’s address; and prayers for our nation as we begin our Semiquincentennial. The service will culminate with the lighting of the church’s historic lanterns.

SUMMARY:Reenactment of the Battle of Lexington
DESCRIPTION:The Lexington Minute Men will conduct the 250th Anniversary Reenactment of the Civilian Evacuation of the Battle of Lexington and the Battle of Lexington on the Lexington Battle Green on Saturday\, April 19\, 2025. \nAccording to the Lexington History Museums\, on the night of April 18\, 1775\, over 700 British soldiers were sent from Boston to Concord to destroy a store of ammunition and other supplies for an anticipated war. As dawn approached on the fateful following morning\, the town militia of Lexington stood in anxious anticipation to stand in their way. The two groups squared off on the town common\, a single\, mysterious shot rang out\, and the British soldiers opened fire. When the smoke cleared\, eight Americans lay dead\, another 10 were wounded\, and a war for independence had begun. \nEach year\, the Town of Lexington and a dedicated corps of reenactors recreate this event in real time on its original site. This year\, the event will take place on the exact anniversary of the battle. \nThe passionate and committed groups of reenactors muster around 5 a.m.\, and the bell in the Belfry will ring and the Battle will commence at 5:15 a.m. \nAttendees should arrive early!

DESCRIPTION:250 years ago Needham residents helped repel British attacks on Lexington and Concord. The Needham Militia’s 12.6 mile march to join the battle started at the Townsend Green (Nehoiden and Central Ave) and ended in Arlington by the Jason Russell House (which still stands). The fighting in Arlington was some of the heaviest of the day\, and five of Needham’s own gave their lives in the first battle to create our nation.\nFor those up to the challenge\, lace up your sneakers and join your fellow residents on Saturday\, April 19\, as we walk the 12.6 mile route from Needham to Arlington. At our destination\, we will tour the Jason Russell House with its many musket ball strikes\, commemorate the sacrifice our fellow townspeople made\, and enjoy a packed lunch.\nRegister today at needhamhistory.org. Participants must sign a release form\, and the cost is $30.00. The walk goes through Needham\, Wellesley\, Newton\, Watertown\, Belmont\, and Arlington. Assuming a roughly 25 minute/mile pace\, walkers should arrive at the Jason Russell House around 2:45pm. Participants will need to arrange their own transportation home. Throughout the day\, learn about the events of April 19\, 1775\, from many points of view. Enjoy a full schedule of living history programs and demonstrations\, including a fast-paced tactical demonstration along a restored stretch of the original Battle Road! Talk with volunteers portraying colonial civilians forced to leave their homes\, minute men who answered the sudden call to arms\, British soldiers fighting for king and country and Loyalists who saw the struggle differently from their neighbors. SUMMARY:Sounding the Alarm\, April 19\, 2025
DESCRIPTION:Old Parish Preservation Volunteers (OPPV) of Norwood\, Massachusetts will be hosting a ceremony in Old Parish Cemetery on Saturday\, April 19\, 2025 beginning at 10:00 am. This event will commemorate the 250th Anniversary of the sixty men from South Dedham (now Norwood) who answered the alarm of April 19\, 1775. Twenty of these men are interred in Old Parish Cemetery. Norwood’s Tilton Carillon in Norwood’s Town Hall will sound the alarm at 10:00am as Norwood’s Colonial Boys fife and drum corps lead the procession to the Old Parish Cemetery to place flowers on the graves of Patriots interred there. The public is invited to join the procession from Town Hall to the Cemetery.

SUMMARY:18th Century Encampment & Muster
DESCRIPTION:The Agawam Historical Association will host an 18th century encampment and militia muster with the 25th Continental Regiment and Green Valley Homestead reenactment groups at the historic Thomas Smith House\, 251 North West Street\, Feeding Hills on Saturday\, April 19\, 2025\, from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. in commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the Shot Heard Round the World\, and the call to arms responding to the 19 April 1775 battles of Lexington and Concord\, \nThe day’s events will include children’s activities\, demonstrations of blacksmithing\, tinsmithing\, open fire cooking\, textile arts\, and musket drills. Attendees will be able to “volunteer” for military service and drill with the 25th Continental Regiment\, who will provide instruction with wooden muskets. \nThe National Register-listed Thomas Smith House\, which had been standing for nearly two decades when the events being commemorated took place\, will be open for tours\, as well its preserved 1920s garage. \nThis event is free and open to the public.
