These objects tell the stories of everyday people whose lives were linked by the shared experience of revolution. This exhibition engages with the memories and mythologies embedded in this collection\, calling attention to how we remember the American Revolution and reckon with its legacy. 𝘔𝘺𝘵𝘩 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘔𝘦𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘺 spotlights the deeply personal experiences of individuals\, families\, and communities caught up in extraordinary circumstances\, organized around the themes of Resistance\, Loyalty\, Liberty\, and Memory. This intimacy invites audiences to consider what it was like to live through these historic events and to contribute in small and not-so-small ways to the shaping of a new nation.

DESCRIPTION:Betty Allen Chapter DAR and Forbes Library Celebrate America 250! with Special Historical Display \nThe Betty Allen Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution is proud collaborates with Forbes Library to present a special America 250! display highlighting Northampton’s rich Revolutionary-era history and the local patriots who helped shape the nation. \nFrom June 1 through June 13\, 2026\, visitors are invited to stop by Forbes Library to explore historical documents and informational displays showcasing Northampton’s contributions to what George Washington famously called “the cause of liberty.” The exhibit also features information about Revolutionary War Patriots buried in Northampton’s historic Bridge Street Cemetery. \nIn addition to the historical displays\, visitors can:\n• Browse and borrow books specially selected by Forbes Library librarians.\n• Participate in a library-wide history scavenger hunt.\n• Share reflections and appreciation in a community gratitude box.\n• View two award-winning essays written by students from John F. DESCRIPTION:In celebration of MA250 and America 250\, please join the State Library of Massachusetts for an Author Talk with authors Donna A. Seger and Brad Austin. They will be talking about their book titled “Salem’s Centuries: New Perspectives on the History of An Old American City\, 1626-2026\,” which focuses on the Revolutionary Period.  \nTemple University Press says: Salem\, MA is best known today for its infamous witch trials in 1692\, yet there is much more to this small city. An important trading center since its founding in 1626\, Salem was also the scene of dynamic social and material changes in the twentieth century. Salem’s Centuries develops a more inclusive and comprehensive historical framework and expands upon the city’s signature eras of witch trials and maritime ascendancy. \nIn advance of the city’s quadricentennial\, the editors and contributors highlight the depth and diversity of Salem’s history\, including stories of indigenous peoples\, early settlers\, African Americans\, and immigrants\, spanning from the American and industrial revolutions to World War II and the present. Chronologically arranged by century\, chapters examine how Salem’s history has been lost or distorted in its public presentations over time. \nSalem’s Centuries is a fresh look at an old American city. And yes\, it includes the accused witches.

Featured in this film is the Ashbow family\, including Hannah and her son Samuel Ashbow Jr. Choosing to fight alongside the American colonists\, Samuel Ashbow Jr. died at the Battle of Bunker Hill in 1775\, becoming one of the first Indigenous soldiers to die in the American Revolution.  \nFollowing the film showing\, there will be a reflective conversation between Melissa Tantaquidgeon Zobel (Mohegan\, Council of Elders Vice Chair and co-writer of the film) and endawnis Spears (Diné/ Ojibwe/ Chickasaw/ Choctaw\, Co-Founder\, Akomawt Educational Initiative).  \nThis program is free to the public. Henry Knox SAR Color Guard\, music\, reading of names of the more than 175 Patriots buried in this cemetery\, reading of the Declaration of Independence\, and more.   \nAfter the presentation\, walking cemetery tours with several reenactors sharing stories of a few of the honored Patriots and other notable Northampton residents connected to the Revolutionary War. \nImportant Details \nPlease be aware\, there is no handicap accessible walkways or roadways in this cemetery.  Parking is limited to on the street where it is allowed. There are NO public restrooms nearby. \nWe will have limited seating for guest speakers and for folks with limited accessibility. DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, June 13\, 2026\, in conjunction with Brimfield Old Home Day\, our community will gather\, and all are welcome to celebrate our nation’s 250th anniversary of our freedom and liberty. Hundreds of Brimfield and area residents answered the voluntary call to duty from 1775 and throughout the Revolutionary War. They will be recognized by a series of cemetery tours between 10:30am-1pm where their narrative stories will be told by historians at each of their burial sites. Formal presentations and performances will begin at 2pm on the Town Common bandstand\, we can expect stories of patriotism\, duty\, honor\, and public service. The parade will begin from the public safety complex at 3pm\, proceed around the Town Common\, and conclude in the Brimfield Winery fields where attendees are welcome to take selfies with the parade participants. We expect the Springfield Kiltie Band\, 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Regiment\, a helicopter flyover\, the 215th Army Band\, local high school marching band\, Brimfield’s antique fire truck\, and more. Everyone is welcome to enjoy live music and entertainment throughout the day at the Brimfield Winery. Around dusk the bonfire pit will be lit\, while the story of Maj. Gen. Henry Knox’ amazing mission to bring cannons from Ticonderoga to Boston will be narrated. The evening concludes with a fireworks display.
