DESCRIPTION:Staged at Historic Deerfield\, A Stake in the Ground: 1774 is a series of three site-specific plays\, set in Deerfield\, MA\, on the eve of the American Revolution. Each performance includes all three plays and will end with a post-show conversation.  \nIn the summer of 1774\, seeds of revolution begin to germinate in Deerfield when a Liberty Pole is brought to town. The characters in three new one-act plays explore the political divisions\, tangled family relations\, and the complexities of enslavement from all sides. Join this vibrant\, immersive examination of the historical split that will define America. \nProduced by Plays in Place\, written by Talya Kingston\, Valyn Lyric Turner\, and Patrick Gabridge\, and directed by Brianna Sloane\, “A Stake In The Ground: 1774” will be performed outdoors at the locations* near where the characters lived in the past\, including outside the Ashley House\, the Allen House\, and the Stebbins House. \nLocation & Logistics: The production is performed outdoors at the locations near where the characters lived in 1774\, including the Ashley House\, the Allen House\, and the Stebbins House. * \nWeather Policy: Shows take place rain or shine. In the event of inclement weather\, the production will move indoors to the Deerfield Community Center. \nAccessibility: Most performances (except for the weekend of July 31–August 2) are held outside. SUMMARY:Polly in the Colony: A True Revolutionary Tale
DESCRIPTION:A new children’s play. The play is a remarkable\, funny\, and mostly true account of a fashion doll that came across the ocean from England on one of the Boston Tea Party ships and found herself caught up in the American Revolution in Boston. This new play follows her journey from a vain fashion doll to a true American colonist and in the process vibrantly teaches adults and kids alike about patriotism\, family\, courage and how one person can change the course of history with intention\, grit and using your voice for the benefit of all. Polly\, the actual doll on which the story is based\, currently lives at Revolutionary Spaces in Boston\, having survived all 250 years of our history. The show is written to be enjoyed by children (grades 4-7)\, older children\, and adults and will be seen by Boston school children as part of their American history curriculum starting in November. This is a unique opportunity to experience the premier production\, performed and produced by the Mass Arts Center\, and these two shows are open to the public as part of the 250th celebration.
