DESCRIPTION:Join us to honor the 250th anniversary of the country’s revolution with George and Martha Washington. Get a hands-on demonstration of a colonial printing press and explore its critical role in rallying support for the revolutionary cause. Explore the history of the time period with colonial hands-on-history maker activities and reflect on how you may shape the next 250 years of this democracy. \nBetween stage performances\, enjoy some creative activities and explore the Museum galleries. \nOn this day\, the JFK Library will offer free admission to Museum galleries from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. to all visitors. Youths ages 17 and under are always free. \n10:30 a.m. – 11:20 a.m. & 12:30 p.m. – 1:20 p.m.\n-Stage performance of “Breakfast with the Washingtons” portrayed by Glen Siner and Sandy Spector\n-Ask George and Martha Washington a question \n11:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.\nEnjoy hands-on-history maker activities!\n-Explore a hands-on demonstration of a colonial printing press and explore its critical role in the American Revolution while you press your own copy of the Declaration of Independence\n-Don’t miss our special exhibit “Declaring the Revolution: America’s Printed Path to Independence”\n-Visit the Museum galleries to explore the early 1960s and the Kennedy administration \nThe Celebrate! series\, appropriate for family audiences and children ages 5 and up\, highlights America’s rich cultural experiences through the arts as an important component of a democratic society. \nSensory Flexibility\nThis is an inclusive program and both people with and people without disabilities are always welcomed. A Flexible Calming Space (quiet room) is available for anyone who needs a break at any time\, especially anyone experiencing sensory overload. \nHow to Attend\nPlease note that in order to optimize your comfort and enjoyment\, reservations are recommended for all visitors to this free program. Make a reservation online or email jfkprograms@nara.gov. Space is available on a first come\, first served basis. Children are seated on a carpeted floor with their caretakers and additional seats are available for people with disabilities\, seniors\, and others unable to sit on the floor. Children must be accompanied by an adult. \nGetting to the JFK Library\nParking is free at the JFK Library.\nA Paul Revere shuttle bus will be running from the JFK/UMass MBTA stop on the Red Line to the JFK Library. \nSecurity\nTo make your experience safe and enjoyable\, the JFK Library takes the safety and security of all guests\, staff\, and visitors seriously. DESCRIPTION:Staged at Historic Deerfield\, A Stake in the Ground: 1774 is a series of three site-specific plays\, set in Deerfield\, MA\, on the eve of the American Revolution. Each performance includes all three plays and will end with a post-show conversation.  \nIn the summer of 1774\, seeds of revolution begin to germinate in Deerfield when a Liberty Pole is brought to town. The characters in three new one-act plays explore the political divisions\, tangled family relations\, and the complexities of enslavement from all sides. Join this vibrant\, immersive examination of the historical split that will define America. \nProduced by Plays in Place\, written by Talya Kingston\, Valyn Lyric Turner\, and Patrick Gabridge\, and directed by Brianna Sloane\, “A Stake In The Ground: 1774” will be performed outdoors at the locations* near where the characters lived in the past\, including outside the Ashley House\, the Allen House\, and the Stebbins House. \nLocation & Logistics: The production is performed outdoors at the locations near where the characters lived in 1774\, including the Ashley House\, the Allen House\, and the Stebbins House. * \nWeather Policy: Shows take place rain or shine. In the event of inclement weather\, the production will move indoors to the Deerfield Community Center. \nAccessibility: Most performances (except for the weekend of July 31–August 2) are held outside. The audience will walk to each location along paved\, municipally-owned sidewalks and will be seated on folding chairs on grassy surfaces. \nJoin us for this vibrant and immersive exploration of the seeds of revolution!
