DESCRIPTION:It is often said that the army marches on its stomach and it’s just as true during the 18th century as it is today. But how was the army supplied with that food? How was it cooked/processed? And what ways did the food that housewives cooked/processed/preserved in their homes support the Continental Army as it grew from local militia groups at the Battle of Bunker Hill to a full army under General George Washington?\nFoodways historian Stacy Booth will discuss not only how the housewives of Massachusetts provisioned the army in the early years of the Revolutionary War but also how they used food and cooking as ways to protest taxation and the political policies that fanned the flames of a revolution. \nBiography\nStacy Booth is a foodways historian with almost 20 years of experience reenacting and presenting to the public. She specializes in 17th and 18th century New England foodways presentations and cooking demonstrations.\nShe also runs her business\, Forgotten Recipes (forgotten-recipes.com)\, where she has presented\, cooked at or set up displays for libraries\, museums and historic houses for the past six years.

DESCRIPTION:How a tiny dry leaf from the other side of the globe worked its way into the cultural identity of a young nation. \nJoin living history interpreter Audrey Stuck-Girard as she prepares a few cups of 18th-century tea with antique teaware and discusses the ways the beverage impacted cultural traditions\, global trade\, and revolutionary politics in 1700s America. \nAudrey Stuck-Girard is an actor\, costumer\, and living history interpreter who has been portraying Abigail Adams and other historical figures from Revolutionary America for over a decade. A true millennial\, she works a full-time job while fostering several “side-hustles” through her one-woman business\, Cuffed & Coiffed. Audrey collaborates with educators\, historical societies\, and venues of all sizes to create and perform programs on early American history. Additionally\, she has developed some renown as the person to go to for an 18th-century man’s wig.

DESCRIPTION:Step back in time with Stacy Booth of the 2nd Massachusetts Regiment and experience the sights\, smells\, and techniques of colonial‑era cooking.\nJoin us at the historic Lafayette‑Durfee House for a hands‑on look at how meals were prepared over an open hearth in the 1700s.\nThe transition from winter to spring is the hardest season for an 18th century housewife to make dinner in. Lacking fresh foods to eat she relies on the foods preserved from the previous fall. If\nshe had planned properly through the winter there may still be a good variety of pickles\, preserved fruits\, salted/smoked meats or cheese to eat.\nHistoric Foodways expert Stacy Booth will discuss the preservation process and demonstrate some 18th century hearth cooked meals\nfrom the preserves created last fall.\nStacy Booth is a foodways historian with almost 20 years of experience reenacting and presenting to the public. She specializes in 17th and 18th century New England foodways\npresentations and cooking demonstrations. She worked previously at Plimoth Patuxet (formerly Plimoth Plantation) and Coggeshall Farm Museum as a 1st and 3rd person reenactor. She is currently a board member of Col Bailey’s 2nd Massachusetts Regiment\, a Revolutionary War reenactment group who has been participating in national reenactments these past 50 plus years.\nHer experiences in Revolutionary War reenactment for the last 10 years have allowed her to travel from Canada to Maryland participating in hearth/campfire cooking as well as outdoor\nbread oven baking demonstrations. She also runs her business\, Forgotten Recipes (forgotten recipes.com)\, where she has presented\, cooked at or set up displays for libraries\, museums and\nhistoric houses for the past six years. DESCRIPTION:The American Revolution comes to Stockbridge! \nPlease join us for a day of programs and events to mark the 250th anniversary of the year in which the Declaration of Independence was signed. \nStretching along Main Street from the Town Offices to the Mission House\, activities will include a quartermaster’s tent displaying the kinds of things the army requisitioned from townspeople\, a presentation on 18th century foraging and food by a local historian\, and an exhibit of 18th century artifacts from the collections of the Stockbridge Library Museum & Archives and Bidwell House. Chat with reenactors; visit a tavern set-up at the Mission House and learn about life in the army and on the home front during the American Revolution. \nSpecial programming includes a visit from Knox’s Noble Train of Artillery featuring costumed educators from Fort Ticonderoga\, a non-firing reproduction cannon\, and two (friendly) oxen; and a presentation by two Mohican veterans discussing the role their ancestors played in the Revolution and the importance of military service in their community. \nPlease check the event website for the latest programs and schedule information. \nThis event is associated with Massachusetts 250 and Berkshires 250. \nWe are grateful for our partnerships with the Trustees of Reservations\, Bidwell House\, and the Berkshire Historical Society; and support from the Massachusetts Cultural Council\, Mass Humanities\, Massachusetts Office of Travel & Tourism\, and the Upper Housatonic Valley National Heritage Area. \nSnow date TBD.

DESCRIPTION:On the evening of April 18\, 1775\, Paul Revere was summoned and given the task of riding on horseback from Charlestown to Lexington\, approx. 12.5 miles\, to inform two leaders of the Sons of Liberty\, John Hancock and Samuel Adams who were staying in Lexington\, with the news that British soldiers stationed in Boston were about to march into the countryside northwest of the town. During his famous Midnight Ride\, Revere alerted the countryside of the British military movements with shouts of “the Redcoats are coming!” In the early morning on April 19\, 1775\, Capt. John Parker led 77 local militiamen and faced arriving British troops. Someone — still unknown to this day — fired a shot\, which provoked the start of the American Revolution. \nTo honor the 250th anniversary of this historic ride\, The Inn at Hastings Park\, Boston area’s only Relais & Châteaux property located in historic Lexington\, MA\, is offering a special four-course Colonial-themed feast created by Executive Chef Alissa Tsukakoshi paired with local area brews and spirits from 6 – 8 p.m. in a communal dining setting in Town Meeting Bistro. As a nod to Paul Revere\, a portrait of him on horseback is featured over the fireplace.
