SUMMARY:Boston: Harbor History Waterfront Walking Tour
DESCRIPTION:Boston Harbor has undergone significant transformation over four centuries. Experience Boston’s rich maritime heritage and contemporary vibrancy on a 1.5-hour stroll along the Boston Harborwalk\, led by an expert local guide. The tour begins at the Boston Harbor Islands Welcome Center on the Rose Kennedy Greenway—site of the “Big Dig”—and concludes at Fan Pier in the dynamic Seaport district\, offering exceptional views throughout. \nThis small group walking tour explores the evolution of Boston’s waterfront\, from its origins as a colonial port in the British Empire; through its development as a major center for shipping\, fishing\, and global trade; to its rebirth as a hub for modern commerce\, tourism\, and recreation. As you venture through the heart of the Boston Harborwalk\, gain insight into the city’s significant efforts to expand and revitalize its waterfront infrastructure\, greenspace\, and public access. \nHub Town Tours delivers a compelling introduction to Boston’s identity as America’s “city by the sea.” Hear engaging stories as you pass historic landmarks and architectural highlights\, illustrating the remarkable shoreline transformation from an industrial area and “dirty water” dumping ground to a vibrant public space beside one of the cleanest harbors in the United States.

SUMMARY:Trodding on the Knox Trail – in Celebration of MA250 Anniversary
DESCRIPTION:In Colonial times\, the Great Road connected Springfield and Albany. In the winter of 1776\, Henry Knox famously led his “Noble Train of Artillery” along this route on its way to Boston\, helping turn the tide of the American Revolutionary War. Remarkably\, portions of the original route still exist today\, hidden within Swann and Beartown State Forests! The program is co-sponsored with MA Department of Conservation and Recreation\, and part of the 2026 Housatonic Heritage Walk series. \nModerate difficulty hike\, recommended for teenagers and older; 2 hours–2.5 miles. Wear weather-appropriate clothing and sturdy footwear. Bring drink/snack\, sunscreen\, and bug spray. Hiking poles are recommended. Friendly dogs are permitted on leash. For more information\, call 413-426-7890. \nTo register\, email – bidwellhouse@gmail.com OR go to the Museum website – Bidwell House Museum \nMeet at Swann Lodge. From the center of Monterey\, at the intersection of Tyringham Road and Rt 23/Main Road\, head west on Route 23/Main Road for 1.6 miles\, then turn right onto Swann Road (located next to the Roadside Cafe) and drive for 1.2 miles. SUMMARY:Colonial Faire and Muster of Fifes and Drums
DESCRIPTION:Come celebrate New England’s revolutionary heritage as historic Longfellow’s Wayside Inn hosts a Colonial Faire and Muster of Fyfes and Drums.\nStep back in time and experience living historians demonstrating life in Massachusetts circa 1775. From military drills to contradancing\, weaving to blacksmithing\, as well as children’s activities including 18th century games\, training with members of the French 85th Regiment Saint Onge and even an opportunity to fire a cannon\, the Spirit of America goes on.\nAt 12:00 following a reading of the Declaration of Independence\, the tolling of church bells\, as well as a musket and cannon salute will herald the start of the Grand Parade. The air will become filled with the music that helped inspire the cause of liberty\, as 25 fife and drum corps from all over the northeast featuring the Middlesex County Volunteers (pictured) process their way to the muster field where they will give individual performances throughout the afternoon.\nYou may find the music captivating\, but don’t forget to stroll the craft booths along merchants’ row and grab a bite to eat at the food court before enjoying your favorite beverage at the Wayside 1716 Beer Garden overlooking the Faire grounds.\nAdmission: $5.00 Children 12 and under: Free\nParking: Free
