SUMMARY:Plymouth in the Revolution: Loyalist Memorials and Revolutionary War Pension Applications
DESCRIPTION:Now that 2026 is upon us\, many Americans will have been conjuring up distant memories of high school history lessons – Bunker Hill and Saratoga\, George Washington at Valley Forge\, the surrender of Cornwallis at Yorktown to the tune of “The World Turned Upside Down.” Plymouth\, though\, is not a name that usually pops into people’s minds when hearing the words “American Revolution.” The Revolution\, though\, was far more than generals or battles. Plymouth\, like every small town in the thirteen colonies\, sent its men off to war. In choosing to follow those generals and fight in those battles\, they made the Revolution possible. Plymouth also saw some of its own vehemently protest the war; they too paid a price for their principles. \nHow can we retrieve the experiences\, the stories\, of these men? Some\, at least\, of the answers can be found in Loyalist Memorials & Revolutionary War Pension Applications. \nPlease join Peggy Baker as she explores the history of these extraordinary primary source documents and shares some of the stories of the Plymoutheans who submitted them\, as Plymouth remembers the Revolution during its 250th anniversary year.

DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, June 20 and Sunday\, June 21\, witness the Stage Fort Park transform into 18th-century Gloucester\, through battle reenactments\, both by land and sea\, civilian encampments\, historical programming\, and more.  \nThe Battle of Gloucester is one of the lesser known battles of the Revolutionary War that played a major factor in the formation of the Continental Navy. The American soldiers’ ability to defeat the British Navy\, the most powerful of the time\, as they attempted to raid the Gloucester Harbor\,  instilled a confidence in the Americans that sparked the eventual creation and birth of the U.S. Navy.  \nBattle reenactments will be held at 10 a.m. (by sea) and 2 p.m. (by land) on both Saturday and Sunday. Throughout the day\, visitors can meet citizens of 1775 Gloucester\, browse 18th century shops\, and explore a Revolutionary War Encampment.

DESCRIPTION:FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE \n FIA New England Marks America’s 250th Independence Day with Veterans’ Tribute\, Tree-Planting Legacy\, and Community Celebration \n 95-year-old WWII Navy veteran Frank Brown plants the first of 250 fruit-bearing trees as hundreds gather in Northborough to honor the nation’s Semiquincentennial \nHundreds of community members\, veterans\, elected officials\, and families gathered in Northborough on Saturday as the Foundation of Indian Americans (FIA) New England hosted a landmark celebration honoring the 250th anniversary of American independence — an event that wove together patriotism\, culture\, and civic service into a single\, unforgettable day. \nThe centerpiece of the celebration was the launch of FIA New England’s “250 Fruit-Bearing Trees Initiative\,” a symbolic environmental legacy project in which each tree represents one year of the nation’s independence. The first tree was planted by 95-year-old Frank Brown\, a World War II U.S. Navy veteran\, longtime Northborough businessman\, and original owner of Brown’s TV. \n A Patriotic Opening \nThe program opened with a stirring rendition of the U.S. National Anthem and the Pledge of Allegiance\, led by Ms. Preanshi Charnalia. Emcees Jyoti Singh and Irena King guided the celebration through a full afternoon of tributes\, performances\, and ceremony. \n Honoring Those Who Served \nThe day’s emotional high point came with tributes to the community’s veterans. Frank Brown\, who also attended last year’s celebration\, was honored for both his wartime service and decades of civic contribution. Also recognized were Max Strickland\, a U.S. Navy veteran serving as Adjutant of American Legion Post 234 and Senior Vice Commander for District 4\, and veteran Richard B. Nieber. \n“I fought for this country many years ago\, and it is a blessing to see this July 4th celebration today\,” Brown said. “Planting these trees is not just about honoring the past — it is about giving something alive and lasting to the future generation.” \nOrganizers also thanked the Northborough Police Department\, including Lieutenant Steve\, for its role in ensuring the safety and smooth coordination of the large public gathering. \n 250 Balloons for 250 Years \nIn one of the day’s most photographed moments\, children released 250 silver foil balloons into the sky — one for every year of American independence — creating a striking visual tribute that capped the celebration’s symbolism. \n Culture and Performance \nThe stage featured a vibrant lineup of performers\, including the Ekta\, Lana & Padmani Dance Group\, and a musical concert by Arun Verma and Priti alongside acclaimed singer Arun Rashtogi\, whose patriotic numbers drew a standing ovation from the crowd. SUMMARY:250 Years of Freedom & Beyond–4th of July Parade\, Concert & Fireworks (Plymouth)
DESCRIPTION:Plymouth’s Annual 4th of July parade’s theme for 2026 is 250 Years & Beyond to celebrate our country’s birth. The day begins with the parade starting from Mayflower Business Park in North Plymouth to Plymouth Rock\, with an Patriotic evening concert with the Plymouth Philharmonic Orchestra and finishing with fireworks over Plymouth harbor at dusk. \n9am: Parade begins from Mayflower Business Park – 428 Court Street\, continuing along Court St and Main St to Water Street.\n7:30pm: Plymouth Philharmonic Concert at DCR Pilgrim Memorial State Park – Plan to arrive at least 1 hour before the concert begins in order to find a parking spot and walk to the state park.\n9:15: Fireworks begin at Dusk. There are several viewing spots available throughout town in addition to DCR Pilgrim Memorial State Park\, including Burial Hill and Nelson Park.

SUMMARY:July 4th Celebration at Old North Church
DESCRIPTION:If you will be in the Boston area for July 4\, we hope you’ll join us for our annual Independence Day celebration! SUMMARY:Community Reading of the Declaration of Independence
DESCRIPTION:The Amherst Historical Society will be presenting a communal reading of the Declaration of Independence at noon on Saturday\, July 4th from the steps of the Amherst Town Hall.  The event will be marked by the ringing of church bells throughout the town at noon\, followed by a summoning of the community to Town Hall by the blowing of a conch shell.  Historically\, a conch shell was used to call the residents of Amherst to gather to conduct town business.  The Historical Society has several examples of conchs used by town officials over the years\, including the original dating back to the 18th century.  The conch to be used was purchased for the event and is not historic.    \nMembers of the Town Council will present a proclamation and after that\, Representative Mindy Domb will begin the reading with the Preamble.  The public is invited to join in following the opening statements\, particularly with the section that begins\, “We hold these truths…”   Individual readers from the community will be reading in turn the rest of the document.  The event will conclude with a non-denominational benediction from Father Valentine Nworah of the Newman Center and close with a musical offering.
