In an unprecedented moment in 1775\, ordinary people in Lexington made extraordinary choices. An entire community—women\, men\, black\, white\, young\, old\, enslaved\, and free—helped spark a revolution. Two hundred and fifty years later\, Americans continue to remember April 19\, 1775\, as a moment when everyday people shaped history. This exhibition explores the events of April 19\, 1775\, with images\, objects\, and an in-depth look at this watershed event and how it has been remembered.

His 1781 civil lawsuit for battery led to the 1783 criminal case that ended slavery in Massachusetts. \nJoin us for the 5th Annual Quock Walker Day Community Celebration at the Lexington Visitors Center Lawn\, 1875 Massachusetts Avenue\, Lexington\, MA 02420 – FREE. The festivities start at 11 am with music and recitation of the Governor’s Quock Walker Day proclamation. \nFIND YOUR JOY at any age with storytellers\, Farm to Plate Caribbean American Food Truck\, a dance workshop\, Black heritage scavenger hunts\, hands-on flax processing demonstration\, military reenactors\, and musical performance by Rhythms of Ghana. Festivities close with a poetry recital at 2 pm. \nHonor the 250th anniversary of the Battle of Lexington which kickstarted the Revolutionary War and paved the way for Massachusetts to adopt a state constitution in 1780. DESCRIPTION:From the “destruction of the tea” to the Declaration of Independence\, witness the founding of a nation through the eyes of one of colonial America’s most iconic couples. John Adams will take part as a delegate in the First and Second Continental Congresses in Philadelphia\, while his wife\, Abigail\, remains in Massachusetts as the American Revolution begins. Their correspondence allows a window into the conflicts\, the struggles of the people\, the tedious nature of the Congress\, and a loving marriage. \nAs we approach the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence in 2026\, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts will be commemorating many other historic events along the way. The letters of John and Abigail Adams reflect their lived experiences through this tumultuous time and allows us to witness history in the making.\nAbigail’s Tea Room provides an intimate setting of this performance geared towards adults and older children. \nBeer\, wine\, colonially inspired cocktails\, an assortment of cookies and scones available for purchase. \nRun time is two hours with short intermission
