DESCRIPTION:For MA250 The Umbrella has programmed two events – a stage company production and an exhibit – to celebrate and amplify voices that have not historically been a part of the revolution story…which is in line with the celebration goals of the 250 plans. \nAn indigenous theatre-maker journeys across geographic borders\, personal history\, and Cultural legacies in search of a place to belong. \nIn 2015\, Mohegan theatre-maker Madeline Sayet traveled to England to pursue a PhD in Shakespeare\, echoing the path her ancestors took in the 1700’s and leading to a remarkable journey of self-discovery. DESCRIPTION:“Ways of My Ancestors – Imagery: Lighting the Path to Awareness” features photographic work by Scott Strong Hawk Foster that celebrates the rich\, diverse\, and resilient cultures of the Native Peoples of the Northeastern Woodlands of North America. \nFEBRUARY 28- MARCH 23 \nFoster is a Native American photographer and an enrolled member of Hassanamisco Nipmuc Band with proud Mohegan and Cherokee lineage. His work has been exhibited at the Danforth Museum\, Worcester Art Museum\, Boston City Hall\, and other venues. \nOn view through March 23 in The Umbrella’s Wedge Gallery\, this exhibition reflects Foster’s travels within his home state of Massachusetts and throughout the ancestral homelands of the Native American Peoples of New England. While attending powwows\, cultural events\, workshops\, and Indigenous practices that span millennia\, his passion has become highlighting cultures and history of the Indigenous peoples that are still here and living amongst us. \nBoth the opening reception March 5\, 6PM and Artist Talk\, March 9\, 1-2PM are free and open to the public. \nThe exhibition runs concurrently with The Umbrella Stage Company’s Where We Belong by Mohegan playwright Madeline Sayet in The Umbrella’s Black Box theater. DESCRIPTION:Throughout February and March of 1775\, the people of Massachusetts were preparing for war. The Provincial Congress organized a network of intelligence to monitor the British Army and the military supplies throughout the province. Aware of the rebel operations\, the British Army conducted military intelligence missions into the Massachusetts countryside. These efforts would see moments of intrigue\, strife\, and unexpected voices playing an important role in what was to come. Join us at the Wright Tavern on Saturday\, March 22\, 2025\, for a living history event that examines the diverse experiences of those involved in this crucial period leading up to the outbreak of war. \nSchedule of Events:\n10 AM – Site Opens\nExplore the Wright Tavern and learn about the various groups involved in intelligence networks in Massachusetts in the Spring of 1775. Meet Park Rangers and living history volunteers who examine the methods\, experiences\, and challenges of people navigating this difficult period in history. \n11 AM – “For the information of Gen. Gage:” The British Spy mission to Concord\nJoin us for an interactive program that puts you in the position of a citizen of Concord in March of 1775 when two British Army spies arrived in town. Park Ranger Thompson Dasher will talk about the experiences of these two officers as well as how their visit impacted the community. \n2 PM – “Merchants and Mechanicks:” The revolutionary Intelligence Network in Massachusetts\nJoin Park Rangers Jane Barnes and Bob Marchetta to learn about the diverse groups of people involved in the spread of information in 1775. SUMMARY:Revelry and Revolution: An Evacuation Day Harbor Cruise
DESCRIPTION:The Evacuation Day Cruise is a two-hour excursion through the Boston Harbor that tells the story of the Siege of Boston (June 1775 to March 1776). Park rangers will provide historical narration of events as we pass key landmarks\, all while navigating the waters the British used to evacuate town. \nThe trip will begin at Long Wharf\, cruise by the Charlestown Navy Yard with the view of the Bunker Hill Monument\, pass Fort Independence (Fortress William in 1776) with a view of the Dorchester Heights\, and cruise by several harbor islands including Little Brewster\, home of Boston Light. Swinging around Little Brewster\, we will head back to Boston with entertainment by the duo Tobias Tripp and Prudence Merriweather for a 3:00pm return to Long Wharf. \nOn this cruise you will enjoy: \n– Narration by local historians\n-Boston Harbor Islands park staff available for questions\n-Period music and merriment aboard the cruise\n-Views of Boston Light\, America’s oldest light station\n-Lunch\, full bar and other refreshments available for purchase onboard \nRegistration is required for this event.
