DESCRIPTION:For MA250 The Umbrella has programmed two events – a stage company production and an exhibit – to celebrate and amplify voices that have not historically been a part of the revolution story…which is in line with the celebration goals of the 250 plans. \nAn indigenous theatre-maker journeys across geographic borders\, personal history\, and Cultural legacies in search of a place to belong. \nIn 2015\, Mohegan theatre-maker Madeline Sayet traveled to England to pursue a PhD in Shakespeare\, echoing the path her ancestors took in the 1700’s and leading to a remarkable journey of self-discovery. This ground-breaking\, one-woman event weaves together humor\, searing insight\, and the timeless power of story-telling\, to explore the importance of honoring our roots and the universal quest for belonging/where we belong. \nFollowing its acclaimed tour\, developed in partnership with Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company in association with The Folger Shakespeare Library\, with performances at Seattle Rep\, Chicago’s Goodman Theatre\, New York’s Public Theater\, and more\, The Umbrella is proud to present the play’s New England Premiere in a new production. \nUmbrella Arts\, Black Box Theater \nBy Madeline Sayet\, Directed by Tara Moses \nRuns February 28- March 23\, 2025

SUMMARY:Concord250 Exhibit: Ways of My Ancestors – Imagery: Lighting the Path to Awareness
DESCRIPTION:“Ways of My Ancestors – Imagery: Lighting the Path to Awareness” features photographic work by Scott Strong Hawk Foster that celebrates the rich\, diverse\, and resilient cultures of the Native Peoples of the Northeastern Woodlands of North America. \nFEBRUARY 28- MARCH 23 \nFoster is a Native American photographer and an enrolled member of Hassanamisco Nipmuc Band with proud Mohegan and Cherokee lineage. His work has been exhibited at the Danforth Museum\, Worcester Art Museum\, Boston City Hall\, and other venues. \nOn view through March 23 in The Umbrella’s Wedge Gallery\, this exhibition reflects Foster’s travels within his home state of Massachusetts and throughout the ancestral homelands of the Native American Peoples of New England. While attending powwows\, cultural events\, workshops\, and Indigenous practices that span millennia\, his passion has become highlighting cultures and history of the Indigenous peoples that are still here and living amongst us. \nBoth the opening reception March 5\, 6PM and Artist Talk\, March 9\, 1-2PM are free and open to the public. \nThe exhibition runs concurrently with The Umbrella Stage Company’s Where We Belong by Mohegan playwright Madeline Sayet in The Umbrella’s Black Box theater. SUMMARY:Rum Revolution Craft Cocktail Class at The Inn at Hastings Park
DESCRIPTION:The Inn at Hastings Park\, Boston area’s only Relais & Châteaux property located in historic Lexington\, MA is in the revolutionary spirit! To celebrate the upcoming 250th anniversary of the start of the American Revolution\, rum will be the focus of this craft cocktail class. During the colonial era\, Boston was in the business of molasses distillation and rum became plentiful. It was the preferred alcoholic drink of American colonists and\, on average\, colonists consumed 3.7 gallons annually per head by the time of the American Revolution! Today\, rum is again a top contender in popularity. The Inn at Hastings Park’s mixology instructor\, Dipendra Karki\, leads this hour-and-a-half\, expertly guided craft cocktail class. Guests enjoy delicious bar snacks while learning the basics of building the perfect rum cocktails along with takeaway tools to practice the craft at home. What’s included: introduction to various bar tools\, learning measurements and pour counts\, building rum cocktails\, creating creative garnishes\, and introduction to infusions. Must be 21+ to participate. 6 – 7:30 p.m. – $125/person.
