DESCRIPTION:DUXBURY\, MA — The Art Complex Museum (ACM) will open Under Construction: America at 250\, an outdoor juried sculpture exhibition\, on Sunday\, June 14\, 2026 — Flag Day — as part of the nation’s semiquincentennial celebration. The exhibition will remain on view through August 29\, 2027\, on the museum’s thirteen-acre campus at 189 Alden Street in Duxbury\, Massachusetts.\nOrganized by ACM Deputy Director and Contemporary Curator Craig Bloodgood\, Under Construction: America at 250 is nearly two years in the making and represents the largest exhibition Bloodgood has developed in his 28 years at the museum. Following an open call issued in fall 2025\, 16 projects were selected from artists working across sculpture\, installation\, textiles\, found materials\, and mixed media. Fourteen works will be installed across the museum campus; two additional works will be placed at nearby community sites — the Duxbury Rural and Historical Society and The Center — bringing the exhibition into the broader landscape of the town.\n“The title Under Construction speaks to the idea that America is still being shaped\,” said Bloodgood. “At 250 years\, the country is not finished\, and we wanted an exhibition that could hold both celebration and critique. Rather than presenting one answer\, we wanted the exhibition to open up many ways of thinking about America now.”\nThe works on view range from the pointed to the poetic. Michael Alfano’s Big Money examines finance’s role in American life; Gary Orlinsky’s Stress Test confronts the pressures facing democratic institutions; and Kasia Ozga’s We The People and Jackie Reeves’s To Uphold take up belonging\, identity\, and civic responsibility. Other works — including Josh Urso’s Reaping and Sowing and Andy Moerlein’s suspended stones — speak to cycles of damage\, renewal\, and possibility.\nBecause the exhibition is installed outdoors for over a year\, visitors can expect each visit to offer something new as the works change with the seasons. Several pieces invite direct participation\, making the experience interactive as well as contemplative.\n“Art has always been how communities make sense of who they are\,” said Peter A. Mello\, executive director of the Art Complex Museum. “This summer\, as our nation pauses to take stock of its story — its promise\, its struggles\, and its continuing work — the Art Complex is proud to provide a gathering place for that reflection.”
